i wouldn't call them proper funeral doom. they are parts extreme doom... and parts "sounds of the forest". well, at least Oceanus.

they are an oddity and outlier in the genre.

You should try Tyranny - Bleak Vistae (EP, 3 songs, 44:44), Skepticism - Lead and Aether (less than 50 minutes), Aes or Ethere (two great EPs), two Esoteric albums Metamorphogenesis and Subconscious Dissolution... are very short, Worship - Last ... Before Doomsday - my favourite doom album ever, Void of Silence - Toward the Dusk, Senthil - they have two good short disgusting EPs and split album, Black Bile - Cloacal Meditation, Planet AIDS - Apokalyptik AIDS,...

Indeed. The Esoteric albums that are only one cd are like... 40-50 min last time I checked.

While listening to Esoteric's Paragon Of Dissonance, I noticed that the song Loss Of Will doesn't sound like the other songs, and it was IMO the worst. What's different in that song (I'm totally a doom noob ) ?

Welp, obviously I disagree with you. I don't see any lack of consistency in styles at all and don't find it particularly different from the rest. The opening might be a bit different with the piano but to say "nothing like the other song" is obviously an exageration considering their back catalogue. The drums and the riffs are dare I say pretty damn standard even for Esoteric. Taking out the peculiar (but still awesome) intro and the piano, the rest of the song is regular Esoteric and even quite similar to the second half of Non Being, so definitely not "nothing like the other songs".

They have always been pretty consistent throught out their entire albums while still being varied and that is one of their strongest points. The only exception might be "Only Hate (Baresark)" from the debut and that works as the exception to the rule.

Slower to the point of becoming very agonizing. Whenever I listen to it, I feel like I'm going to suffocate. Also, it doesn't have a lot of those leads and melodies like on the other tracks.

Nope, but it keeps the same atmosphere and overall psychedelic feel nevertheless, with much help of the piano and keys in general.

I'm not generally a big fan of keys and piano. I respect them a lot and know how important they are in music, but they don't interest me like guitars do. Loss Of Will is not an easy-to-get-into song for me, and personally I don't think I got into it. I really tried focusing on it, but I always end up skipping it...

My comment wasn't aimed at "omg why don't you like it" (although I'll admit I fail to see anything wrong in the songs but then again... leads and melodies are overrated hahaha ). My comment was just aimed at the first post of yours wondering what's different in that song.

The difference is the usage of pianos and keys instead of the guitar leads otherwise prominent on the album.

They have a very strong use of keys and pianos during the whole album be it up front or not, they are always there which is typical of them. Like "Non Being" where they use them just as much as "Loss O Will" or Cipher where they use a shitton of effects at the ending. I can pretty much point out how all the tracks use a lot of keys during intros (loss of will, non being,Disconsolate) , endings (cipher) or as so called bridges (any song tbh). So I don't feel that any instrument is more prominent that any other.
