Like many others, my first encounter with the French Deathspell Omega was slightly after the release of Kénôse, their 2005 effort. Despite it not being regarded as a full-length by the bandmembers themselves, this was the release that got them out of the underground and boomed them into the spotlights of Black Metal.

Truth be told, I enjoyed it quite a bit. The intro is really great in particular. I also like the fact that it's an EP cause I don't think an hour of this would be necessary, it went everywhere it needed to go IMO.

Yeah that intro is pretty immense. Such a great build up. Deathspell's stuff really suits the EP format I think. Their sound is really dense and technical so smaller bursts is not a bad thing.

Indeed, that's my only problem with their albums that I have heard, so I guess I should really check this EP out.

This, Chaining the Katechon and Diabolus Absconditus are all great short bursts of the band's sound. The latter 2 are each 1 song that last 20 minutes or so. Probably easier than trying to get through SMRC or FAS in one go.

Both great albums, but they are anything but easy listening

I'm gonna check this one out right now. It's time. I can feel it.

Well hopefully this one will live up to the hype it has (around here anyway).

Finally, got my copy So late because I simply couldn't afford it while studying (booze/going out was a priority back then). And holy fucking shit...everything about this release is so damn perfect. Man, the booklet is out of this world! Literally

Been spinning this a lot lately. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite pieces of black metal madness. The first song is just insane. No other album of theirs can match this.

This feels like it's the actual first part of the trilogy that ends with Paracletus. This, the aforementioned, and FAS all have a similar sound, whereas Si Monumentum doesn't sound related to these albums at all.

Anyway, even if it's the case that Si Monumentum is the first part of the trilogy, I'm still going to treat this one as the first part, because listening to them like this makes way more sense to me.

Well, it's been about a year and a half since I first let my ass get kicked by this, and my thoughts on it are pretty much the same (which is actually saying quite a lot, all things considered). Still some of the best black metal ever. It gets into mind-crushing territory quite a lot but there's a real sense of purpose to everything, which I really appreciate. Not the same genre, but I was listening to Epidemic of Violence as well at work today and while there's a time and place for it, that type of mind-crushingness isn't always as engaging.

True, though it is over 30 mins, so feels more complete than most EPs. A monster of a record.

So, I've progressively liked this EP more and more the longer I've been listening to it. At first, I liked this EP a decent amount, then I ended up deciding I really enjoyed it, and now it's amongst my favorite releases of all time. The whole thing is incredible, but track 2 is particularly good. I don't know why, but I feel like I could listen to that track every day.

I recommended Serial Experiments Lain to Che one or two years ago ... And way before that I got said recommendation from !J.O.O.E.! back in 2012. It all started when Joe posted the (awesome) opening track on the non-metal section of the forums.

Absolutely chaotic, insane EP. I didn't like it so much when I first listened to it. But I persisted because there's a lot of fuss about Kenose, so I wanted to find out what it really is. Never looked back after that. Easily one of the best black metal I've heard, on a tie with SMRC though.

Look at that overall user rating. You don't see that very often for a black metal album outside some classic 80s / 90s stuff.
