Terra Tenebrosa relish in their own secrecy and sound of mystique. Through mask and hood the band view things in an uncompromisingly dismal light and what we get from their music is something which you know just should not be there, yet there it is. The avant-garde expression of The Purging isn't exactly becoming to all listeners, especially considering the difficulty in linking comparisons, yet its self assured character is well manifest.

Easily as crushing and terrifying as The Tunnels, but in a different, more dynamic and less claustrophobic way.

A must-listen, no less.

This review raises my hopes for this album

I'll probably give this a shot but I didn't like The Tunnels much to my surprise.

I'm guessing that's because the term "post-metal" was thrown around left right and centre where the first album was concerned, despite the fact there was really very little post-metal involved

Have you heard the song they already released? From the sound of that they seem to be heading in a bit more of a straightforward direction this time.

Well it wasn't meant to be, just saying it was advertised everywhere as being post-metal so you might have been disappointed when it turned out not to be

How does this one sound comparing to their tunnel? Is this equally great?

in the middle of my first spin, I would say this is a huge step down from tunnel, unfortunately

Maybe I need to give this a more proper listen but I doubt it would change my mind drastically.

same here, even if they're quite different The Purging is more dynamic, while The Tunnels relied more on drones (The Mourning Stars)...

Agreed with the both of you. I'm LOVING The Purging and LOVE The Tunnels! I will admit that I think I like this new style a little bit more but I do still believe they are both fantastic albums.

I preferred their previous album, but I can certainly enjoy this change in direction. Maybe with every new release they'll delve into a slightly different sound.

That is one of the reasons I prefer tunnels to this. I do miss the droning aspect of their music and "The Mourning Stars" was my favorite track.
Btw, this is much better than what I initially thought. A solid 8 would do the justice for this album.

Well, I don't really miss it, as there are plenty of awesome riffs and structure changes to keep me more than happy (and yes, "The Mourning Stars" is beyond awesome). Plus they did keep an identity of their own; even if it's not The Tunnels, The Purging has an unmistakable Terra Tenebrosa sound...

It's realy better than "The Tunnels", less atmospheric melodies and more istruments sounds, an a little more vocal. this really scare me when I linten to it before sleep !

One background listen says it's not as good as the debut. Definitely a step in a safer, less unique direction. But considering how good the debut was, I'm sure I'll be happy with this album too once I get a better idea.

This album is fucking rad! I like this one a lot more then the last one, and I liked the last one the production is a lot less muddy. weirdly, I played the self-titled track, Terra Tenebrosa, layered over itself and it kind of works well.
