What is your favorite rock genre as a metalhead, even though they aren't subgenres of metal

I personally love progressive rock myself. You can't go wrong with great artists such as Genesis, Yes, and The Alan Parsons Project.

Post-hardcore.

But since there is no such option and it is a development of hardcore I chose that.

And then of course there's Asking Alexandria... For the record, nobody ever asked Alexandria anything ever again.

So... non-metal genres just mean other rock genres?
Also, I'm pretty sure Grindcore is a metal genre.

Actually, it isn't. Grindcore is just a fusion of crust punk and death or thrash metal. It's often considered "too punk for metalheads and too metal for punks".

I tend to like bands/artists, not genres. But I do love classic prog, so I voted for that.

Between hard rock and alternative rock. There is a lot of good music coming out of both.

Well, I grew up on prog rock, my father listened to bands like Pink Floyd, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Genesis all the time. I used to dislike them, found them boring, but now I learned to appreciate this kind of music. So I voted for prog rock too.

I like decent rap rock music and therefore I listen to Hollywood Undead.

They got some really good albums in their bag. Deuce fucked up, walked out the band and started solo project which was quite highlighted in mainstream mags contemplating that DEUCE WAS HU. That was a rough patch

Well, their latest album was pleased me up a bit but nevertheless a great band to have some spins-off their early records.

I've never heard any metalhead say its too punk, but I have heard the other one and grindcore IS a sub genre in metal. If its a fusion of punk and metal as you say it is but you say its not metal then that means its not punk either, considering your logic.
But to stay on topic, I'd probably say classic rock, or punk.
