Another few years have passed and the once so mighty Children Of Bodom give it another try. People out there might have heard the rumours already so here is the essential question: Are they back? Back from their downhill path starting with Are You Dead Yet? If you want an answer to that, get yourself the album and find it out by yourself, for it's truly a quite personal question. But let's have a look beyond conservatives and fanboy rockers and get some insight to the subject.

The singles released for this album, "Transference" and "Halo Of Blood", set off a storm of anticipation and excitement around this album due to the fact that these songs sounded reminiscent of the Children Of Bodom's classical and often most cherished early albums. But now that the album is out and the dust is settled, does Halo Of Blood really live up to the hype?

The album art and the tracklist suggests to me that this could be a surprising album. Could be that I shouldn't judge an album by it's cover but this is the first time I've been excited for a Children of Bodom release since before Are You Dead Yet?.

Kinda cool artwork, I don't know but I get a more "back to the roots" vibe of this than of the previous 2 albums. But I'm probably wrong :|

Same feeling here but I have hard to see if they can write anything like their 3 first albums..

Vocals and Keyboards are produced by Tagtgren (the last album he produced for COB was, my personal favourite, Follow the Reaper) so hopefully that will mean Alexi's vocals will have more of an echo effect and be more 'black' sounding like they were on Follow The Reaper. As well as the keyboards being more pervasive and atmospheric

Well, believe it or not, but I hear some influences from the first albums. The omnipresent keyboard probably helps a great deal. It's a bit more like the sound of Follow The Reaper and Hate Crew Deathroll, but still not quite like it. I'm not sure how to rate it, but it's miles better than Blooddrunk and Relentless, Reckless, Forever.

wow, that's great. I don't have to high hopes for it but if it's better than the two previous ones I'm more exicted than I was before!

I have a hard time listening to the title track from start to finish, so I wouldn't say I'm very excited for this.

I'm very excited for this. If you watch the youtube video they put up with some of the first impressions from music critics apparently it's more of a return to their roots. The song that has now been taken down from YouTube (a radio rip of Halo of Blood) was a particularly good track, one of the best they've written in a long time, with a very black metal feel. I don't see any reason to be overly pessimistic about this album.

Yea, I heard that supposed "radio rip of HoB" and I seriously doubt that was "Halo of Blood". It was entirely too black metal-y for a Children of Bodom track, even in their early days they weren't as black metal-y as that track was. I suppose it's possible but I'm pretty positive that track was created by a troll.

It would have to have been a very, very dedicated troll. You don't just fabicrate an entire song so you can go "LOL I TROLLED U"
Plus the video got pulled by the record company.

No, not like the troll wrote and recorded the song. But they could've found a random unknown song from a band whose vocalists is similar to Alexi, or taken the music from one song and put the vocals from another Alexi sounding vocalist layered on top of the blackened song.

I'm not saying that's what happened but that radio rip track just sounded entirely too different from anything CoB has written previously so I am not so quick to believe that is a new CoB song as many others. If the song was more similar to CoB then I'd be more willing to believe but until CoB or Nuclear Blast release that exact song, I'm not buying it.

It's not THAT different, the guitar tone is just a lot more black-metal than usual. The record label wouldn't have removed it if it wasn't real.

They might if they, or Children of Bodom, didn't want fans thinking they were releasing something they're not (false advertising?). If I was in a major label band like CoB and somebody posted a false track from my upcoming album I would definitely have it pulled immediately for misrepresnting my work. And neither NB nor CoB have released a statement verifying that was or was not a CoB track, so all I'm saying is that I will not believe that is a CoB track until an official release from Cob or NB.

I agree, that was a pretty bitchin' sounding track and I also hope that was real because then that would mean CoB would be worth a shit again finally.

Hmm....the quality is sucks. I would be very surprised if it is really CoB.
Hardly believe that they start to playing like they played before

The vocalist definitely sounds like Alexi, and it has it's moments where it definitely sounds like a Bodom track but the black metal tremolo and blast beats are like nothing Children of Bodom done in a very long time. The solo sounds like an old CoB-style solo for sure but Alexi has stated in more than a few interviews that CoB will never go back to playing like they used to, so that makes it very difficult to believe that that is really "Halo of Blood".

Now if I'm wrong, and that IS "Halo of Blood" and Alexi has decided to go back to playing some of that great old CoB-style playing then Halo of Blood is definitely going to be a stand out album of this year.
