Another few years have passed and the once so mighty Children Of Bodom give it another try. People out there might have heard the rumours already so here is the essential question: Are they back? Back from their downhill path starting with Are You Dead Yet? If you want an answer to that, get yourself the album and find it out by yourself, for it's truly a quite personal question. But let's have a look beyond conservatives and fanboy rockers and get some insight to the subject.

The singles released for this album, "Transference" and "Halo Of Blood", set off a storm of anticipation and excitement around this album due to the fact that these songs sounded reminiscent of the Children Of Bodom's classical and often most cherished early albums. But now that the album is out and the dust is settled, does Halo Of Blood really live up to the hype?

Unfortunately the two previously mentioned singles are the best songs on the album.

I was gonna give it a go because of the rating it now has compared to the previous albums, but since you mentioned the singles were the "best" songs on the album (I thought both songs were terrible), I might reconsider and just not bother at all.

Myabe you should do what you want instead of follow one person's opinion?

Nah, I just don't feel like wasting my time with Bodom anymore. I'll probably check it out eventually, but reading the comments (both positive and negative) don't exactly get me excited, since it seems the two singles were more or less a good indicator of the rest of the album.
EDIT: You know what, fuck it, I'll check it out right now and be done with it

I actually think it sounds quite like HCDR so even if it's not the Bodom I love it's definitely in the right direction

I don't like it. Sure, I admit it's a step up from their previous release, but it's still garbage to me. It has some genuinely enjoyable moments, though they are few.

Well you gave it a shot at least . I think if this would have been released after follow the reaper I wouldn't like it but nowadays you have to enjoy every drop of relative good music that Bodom releases

They''ve done a good album again. Better than their lasts 3 albums, worst than their 3 first, but at leaset as good as HCDR. They've made a step forward by making a step backwards. If their next album is even more old school than this one i would say they've returned again.

When I first heard the first song of the album, I smiled from ear to ear but I miss the old apassionating sound of SW, HB and FTR. Anyway this is a good surprise for me.

This is actually great! The logical follow-up to HCDR somehow... and their best since then.
They still manage to first release one of the (slightly) weaker songs (Transference) but anyway, Bodom are back!

I gave it a 9, because I think they finally found the right direction to fill in the gap they made in their fans' heart with their last few years. That is an effort that should be respected. After giving it several spins I can also say they did not copied the old years using the same recipe and making repetitive, dull shit, but instead they used the same recipe to make fresh and very good stuff. Feel the difference.

I was really surprised by this album. After being disappointed after their several lasts releases, this one has given us some new fresh ideas. And I've noticed some changes in the manner of singing. Very nice album!

Improvement over Blooddrunk and Relentless Reckless Forever, but still light years away from the sheer brilliance of HB, FTR and HCDR...

Wow! Just listened to the title track, I certainly wasn't expecting this! The Norwegian BM-inspired riffs from their early works are back and this song is just kick-ass. I had completely ignored their last album but this one gives me hope CoB can still play decent extreme metal.

I disagree, the production is a little funky, and the songs get boring after a bit, but the rawness and energy is back. Drumming has improved greatly. I wouldn't listen to it again, but it wasn't bad.

I didn't get anything energetic from this album. Very plodding, uninteresting songs, terrible dry-throat vocals which were far too high in the mix, flat production. Yeah, no.
