Interesting that the band is making this their "self-titled" effort. I'm curious of the results and whether Mike Portnoy has anything to say regarding this.

While it wouldn't be as bad as Stratovarius' homonymous album, I'm happy

I'm not very optimistic about this release, I didn't like their 2011 release at all and I hope they don't repeat a stunt like that again..

2011 release was good, just the mastering could be better hope they will fix it this time. Anyway, can't wait for it.

Have you seen their HDTracks release? It's better than their CD release.

In my opinion 2011 release was very good. not better than 2003 or 2007 of course, but it was acceptable to me.
i hope this one will be good but i don't think so.

2011 was great album, pretty much all DT albums are great. Not all of you will agree but DT are THE standard and many bands follow in their footsteps, that shows something. There is a reason why DT is the most popular Prog Metal band. Don't understand why some people have negative attitude towards them. Musicians in the band are cream of the crop. Show some respect guys.
Very excited to hear new album.

...like being more commercial? I mean, Justin Bieber has more followers than those two, he is probably doing it better

Dull cover, and some of those song titles almost sound like parodies of prog (metal) titles. I'm hoping for a lyric starting with the line "A timid, palatable genocide..."

I'm still looking forward to it though. "Illumination Theory" has 5 sections and (unless they do a "Killing Hand") that points to a 20-minute epic. "False Awakening Suite" sounds promising as well.

Somehow, I think the album is going be based in conspiracy. The whole disc seems to be about some "thing." I'd consider this some sort of Illuminati based conspiracy. The fucking closer track and nearly every other points to it. Well, they did "Rite Of Passage" so this seems like a continuation of that thoughtline.

The question is however; do they really believe in this shit, or are they using it to sell records? Let's face it, the Illuminati sells these days. Even though I don't believe in them.

If you see the studio footage they've been uploading, they write the lyrics there in the studio when needed. I feel it's more like "Oh right, this song needs lyrics... hey you over there, write something". So they probably write about anything just to have some vocal lines there.

Hmm... That's refreshing. Still not expecting anything grand, regardless. New Ayreon is coming out this year, so...

Looking forward to this one, Petrucci has said that this is the best DT record yet, that and the fact that it is self titled must mean that DT are really confident about what they have created here. I have high expectations now that Mangini has creative input.

If you get excited every time a band says that you're pretty naive...

Holy fuck, what a boring album. After hearing "The Enemy Inside" I thought that this could be very nice, heavier.

Oh god, how wrong I was. Unless the last track is their best song ever, this album is worthless.

Edit: As expected, boring.

Based on the first listen, I can already tell it's the best DT album in a long time. Can't believe I didn't start counting sheep at some point during the album...
I like how the production took care of drowning Labrie's voice beneath the rest of the instruments most of the time

After a first listen, I'd have to say I haven't enjoyed a Dream Theater album this much in a long, long time. Surprisingly, James LaBrie sounds great most of the time, and the mixing of the album is fantastic. Nice to hear Myung again, and Petrucci's solos haven't been this good in a long time. x3 Also, tons of classic Dream Theater nods... which leads to Rush moments. LOTS of Rush moments.
