Behemoth - New Album Art To Contain Nergal's Blood

Behemoth's frontman Adam "Nergal" Darski really wants to leave his own mark on the band's new record, literally. He was recently interviewed by Heavy magazine to whom he announced that the artwork for new album The Satanist will contain his own blood. Russian symbolist painter Denis Forkas was commissioned for the work, with Nergal delivering a box containing his own blood to Moscow where Forkas blended it into the painting to give it "a more organic feel." Also, producer Colin Richardson is no longer involved in the new album due to "creative differences", and has been replaced by producer Matt Hyde. His blood wasn't strong enough.

Nergal explains: "I wanted to incorporate some of my DNA into the art. This album seems to be so defining of who we are now as people and as individuals, and considering all the instances in recent years, [we wanted] to make it more 'ours' than it is usually."

Speaking of the design: "It's very arty; it's very artistic and it really has no heavy metal clichés in it. Expect something very special and spectacular, and deeper than all of the other products that are in the market."

About the producer situation, Nergal says: "We just couldn't agree on certain concepts and visions of what the record should sound like. He did a great job actually - but Matt was always supposed to be the main mixing guy for the record.

"Within a week or two weeks with Matt I had the whole record mixed and believe me, it's the best-sounding Behemoth record for sure. It's very organic, it's very different - I love it."

Maybe that explains why the album had to be postponed to 2014.

ahahahaha. ahahaa. hahaha.

this little update falls well within the realms of heavy metal cliches too. namely, saying it is their best sounding album, I don't know if I have ever read an update from a band where it doesn't say "our new album is our best yet"

Exactly, and behemoth doing this now makes it look like nothing but a gimmick. So mainstream unoriginal. :|

True, that is what they might think. But acts like Botanist, Meshuggah, Mastodon and even Opeth discussed the varying sound of their latest records, at least to some extent without straight away proclaiming that metal cliche.

Somehow I get the feeling Behemoth is the new version of 'shock rock' but in the shape of 'shock black metal'. I hoenstly don't know, but it seems they are trying to make sales by trying to be as extreme as it can get.

Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy quite a bit of Behemoth songs but the whole act around it seems pointless to me (and slightly childish).

*'shock death metal'. They haven't been 'black metal' for about 15 years now, and they haven't had 'black metal' in their sound for about a decade.

Agreed with Daniell though, they're a bit late to the "blood-based artwork" stunt for over a decade. And also with Joe, would expect this kind of gimmick from Kvarforth long before Nergal.

The general consensus seems this is a little gimmicky. So, what's the solution you ask?

Simple. Begin by Nergal draining all the blood from his body. This kills him - through this process he literally GIVES HIS LIFE to the album. That's dedication. Next, because there is only a limited amount of blood, limit it to a 666 vinyl release. Each record comes with a small vial containing some of Nergal's blood. At the top is a small tab with a hole in it, so you can attach the vial to your favourite necklace, and show it to the world. Also the album artwork will instead be a picture of his blood drained body crumpled on the ground.

Your move Behemoth. The fans want it.

Yea, he did do something with his blood...

"he is releasing a book titled When Prozac No Longer Helps, which contains every lyric ever written by him in both its original language (Swedish) and in English in a hardcover format, individually numbered in Kvarforth's own blood"

All about show business! C'mon Nergal, I know you're smarter than this! I am fine with the title "The Satanist", the deeper meaning behind that simple phrase, but this "bloody" thing is on the same level as Paris Hilton showing off her porn (at least this Paris thing is more lovely )...meaning, self proclamatory crap so usual in modern pop culture, shortly named CLICHE! Oh well, in the end, the music will be the only thing important, and I do hope it will be good, but judging by the sound of his voice after health care, I seriously doubt Nergal can pull it off the same way as before...let's wait and see....
