Better than Doctrine, but I am expecting a higher quality Pestilence's album

Better than anything on the last two albums easily, a very good song that's just lacking that extra sparkle of magic that made the stuff on Testimony and Spheres so wonderful. It could be a touch longer too, but overall, I'm very happy with this. Most of the material on the last two albums was way below the calibre of material that a class act of Pestilence's pedigree should be producing. This song whilst not quite a classic is definitely worthy of the Pestilence name, I like it! And it's always great to hear Patrick Mameli's vocals, they're so unique and awesome.
Oh, and "The album artwork was changed as the previous one resembles some albums that where released in the last few weeks." Yeah right, they just don't want to admit the real reason, which was that the previous artwork was horrible, and the fans hated it! hehe

Ahah Was that it? That was the "official" explanation though

Oh, that was the "official" explanation alright, but I don't believe it for one moment! The previous artwork was revealed several months ago, so I'm sure the band were well aware of the highly negative reaction towards it, and that's why the change was really made. lol

Haha, that was the first thing I noticed. The original art was fucking abysmal. This is still a fairly typical CG cover, but as it stands, it's a massive improvement.

Patrick said in an interview with Dutch magazine Aardschok that people said the first one looked too much like Meshuggah - ObZen Okay both have a poerson in yoga lotus position on it, but that's it, imo

The cover reminds me of Epica's Design Your Universe

Written by BloodTears on 23.10.2013 at 11:03 Well if they changed it because of the fans, they should just be honest about it. Or else, just stick to your original idea. Maybe Meshuggah were pissed or something
Yep, though a lot of people don't like to admit they fluffed things up the first time of asking. The original "Obsideo" artwork really looks nothing like Meshuggah's "Obzen" artwork at all! The only thing they have in common, is a guy sitting in the lotus position, but aside from that, the two artworks are nothing like each other. I suspect Patrick was looking for any flimsy excuse to change the artwork, and this was it. hehe
The more I listen to this song, the more I love it, I'm really looking forward to the new album now. I think it's the melodic qualities of Testimony and Spheres that this material is lacking, and it's very hard to be melodic with the guitar tuning the band now uses. But at least this song somewhat recaptures the adventurous spirit which those albums displayed.

I find this to be boring. Aside from the solo at the end this was monotonous as fuck.

Incredible that this band still operates under the Pestilence name. Nothing in common with one of my fav albums of all time: Malleus Maleficarum.

not really since Pestilence was Always Patrick Mameli's brainchild and all other members were just disposable to him.
And all their albums have Always differed quiet a lot from each other and sounded nothing like Malleus Maleficarum. So, Pestilence should have changed name for every new release?

It's still the same level of total shittiness, indeed.

Totally disagree about the new artwork... It's not amazing by any means, in fact it's actually a little bit grainy... but I do think it's a big improvement over the previous artwork.

Just took the time to actually listen to the song. Yeah, it's pretty much just as poor as they've been. Looks like I'll be sticking with Consuming Impulse... not that I was expecting something on the same level as one of the greatest death metal albums ever, but yeah.
