Metallica - Confirm Show In Antarctica

Recently, Metallica's drummer Lars Ulrich stated that the band would cross another frontier this December after their 3D movie. Now it's official that Metallica will play in Antarctica because they never played there and it is the only continent yet where the band never played live. They want to conquer the world and the penguins.

The band explained: "After over 30 years as a band, we have been unbelievably fortunate to visit just about every corner of the earth... except for one. That is all about to change as we are set travel to Antarctica, the only continent that Metallica has never played on until now! We are partnering with Coca-Cola Zero for one of the most unique and special concert events in our career as we'll be performing near the heliport of the Argentine Antarctic Base Carlini on Sunday, December 8, 2013.

Latin American fans in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Mexico will be able to enter a contest for the chance to win an Antarctic cruise that sails December 3-10 and will stop at Carlini. We'll be playing inside a dome on the base and in another twist, the show will be transmitted to the audience via headphones with no amplification... a real first for us! The show will also be streamed live for our friends in those Latin American countries who cannot join us at the base and filmed to share with everyone at a later date.

For more details about his amazing adventure, check here. To enter the contest to join us in Antarctica, click here. Contest entry begins on October 28th. Pack up those warm clothes and we'll see you at the bottom of the planet!"

In order to be part of the trip, fans will have to participate in a contest that is being launched in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico, starting on October 28th and until November 22nd. The winners will leave on December 3rd in a cruise from the port of Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego, headed for Antarctica. During the 10-day journey, they will be able to enjoy the landscapes of this continent, participate in lectures to be provided by specialists, see audiovisual material on the work of the scientists and receive environmental information.

I think it's kind of cool. The idea of setting up a contest and playing for the winners in Antarctica is neat. When they played the Arctic Circle for Molston Ice, they donated money to a youth center.

Considering the Original title of the song Call Of Ktulu was When Hell Freezes Over I am not surprised at all. And as we all know the ANicent Ones as descriibed by Lovecraft dwell under Antartica.

I can't rag on Metallica because they introduced me to metal, but Antarctica... really? The 3D movie they're coming out with looks very questionable as well.. and Lulu is best swept under the rug and forgotten. What next, Metallica?

As much as I disapprove of Metallica's recent endeavours, this one is actually quite cool. Literally too

I agree. I think it's a great idea and one of the very few postive things they've done/will do over the past two decades.

Am I only one reading "in another twist, the show will be transmitted to the audience via headphones with no amplification..." and cringing? That's way more ludicrous to me than playing in Antarctica.

I'm kinda with you there. But then, unlike Slayer, famously they have done acoustic stuff before, huh... ^ LOL Rev Carl, it'd be funny if they got there & couldn't even play the gig...

(coincidentally, just yesterday the reader on the 6am news was talking to someone saying their business had conquered all the continents on the world - well, the other 6 - and joked that Antarctica would be next)

Last night I watched a doco, Behind the Beast which showed the crew involved in Maiden's 'Round the World in 66 Days' tour, and gave real perspective into 1) why the tickets these days can be so damned expensive, and 2) what fun can be had and what great guys and girls do[ing] the heavy lifting/behind the scenes. If I had Motörhead's "We Are the Road Crew" at hand I'd probably blast it right now

Damn this is pretty cool news maybe they'll play Trapped Under Ice thats a good Metallica song and really it would just be cold of them not to include such a fan favourite, although I'm concerned as lately Lars Ulrich has only been able to keep glacial drum beats, in fact all the members of the band are getting very old and are starting to walk around awkwardly as a penguin might

Who are they going to even play to anyway, the scientists who do research there or something? Maybe they'll offer a special contest for fans to win tickets for a special flight or cruise down there to see them. Perhaps just play to no one, but film a good pro-shot video or something in front of the glaciers and ice. It's pretty cool, but at the same time very bizarre.

You didn't read the whole article did you...
