Oh man, this is up my alley for sure.

Initial impression: I don't think there's a better death/doom album this year. Fantastic.

If you really want to listen to some fantastic death/doom without being haunted by impressions like:"wow, this is ripping off X band", then you're in the right place.

I don't think there's a better death/doom album this year.

It's a pretty bold statement.. but I have a similar feeling.

Hahaha maybe, but it's been a pretty weak year for death/doom, at least in my opinion.

What are you guys talking about... This is not my favourite death/doom album of the year, I've heard better this year and in my humble opinion this year is quite good for death/doom fans! Examples? Sure.

We heard. This is a very strong point in this class, without a doubt. Although +1 for Ataraxie as for me.

heard it, loved it, just like Ataraxie's latest. But Eye Of Solitude isn't really comparable to the much harsher sounds of those two. But it's ona same level qualitywise.

I saw this staff pick, searched for it on Spotify but only found Sui Caedere. Listened to that one, incredible album! Listened to Canto III afterwards, was not as impressed actually.. For me it gets quite repetitive, and got the feeling that the album is trying to move forward but stands where it starts.. Maybe I will change my mind after more listens, but for now this is how I felt about it.

Does anybody know what's up with the 6 bonus tracks of material that come with the limited edition?

Edit: I figured it out but here's the answer via bandcamp "Coming as a limited edition (1.000 hand-numbered copies) double DigiFile CD first press featuring no less than seven (!) bonus tracks taken from the band's 2011 untitled promo" pretty sweet actually.

The whole album is great. Acts II - IV are my favorites I think. I hear bits of Mar de Grises with it's warmer Doom sides and also a little Colosseum from the structure of the guitar, and then it surges at you with those blast-beat driven walls of sound! It's quite sorrowful as well. I should check out Sui Caedre.

Terribly mixed bag this. On one hand the clean, atmospheric sections are really well judged, and the black-ish faster parts sound pretty good, but the slow death-doom bits, which unfortunately make up most of the record, are pretty atrocious. Massively oversaturated keyboards, boring trudging riffs and awful, unconvincing and forced sounding "death" growls which really jar the experience. Oh, the percussion is really clicky as well. Less of the badly designed and executed death-doom parts, more of the rest (especially could do with more of the tortured Negura Bunget-esque spoken vocals which appear very scarcely).

I get the impression the band want to be part of the whole wall of sound / atmosphere thing but it doesn't really come off well to be honest.
