I honestly hope he is just very successful at trolling. I find him hilarious with the language he uses in his reviews and stuff, but I also get why no one wants to be roasted by their peers
Was listening today again to Convulse' "World Without God' album and I thought I'll make a thread about finnish Death metal.
We all know the swedish type, treble driven super distortion with this somehow punkish feel sometimes. However when it comes to Finland's death metal, we can clearly notice it was closer to the american way than to their neighbors.
Of course of the most known we have Demigod and Demilich, downloading made me discover other nice Death metal bands that aren't as unique as Demilich but still they need to be mentioned somewhere, Convulse to begin with, Adramelech, Funebre (great one) and of course Abhorrance and early Amorphis. But also Xysma, who began as a nice grind act in the old vein who later turned into pioneering the death and roll genre. (YES, and not Entombed).
I feel that this thread will sink low in this forum's page but heck, giving it a try. So I would be glad to get more reccomendations, more likely albums and not split or demos, I noticed there were a lot of demos but not enough full lengths actually! Or maybe this is just me.
The first Convulse album is awesome indeed, also the second, which is pure death'n'roll and a friggin wonderful death'n'roll it is !!
yes but I neve rhad been much fun od death 'n' roll maybe leither Entombed and Santymony but early sohnd and old school I love it ist my life and what i love, even no metters what music but those days i still remeber midle of 90ties

Wow that's great news dude.
Just DLed two other finnish death metal materials. Now listening to Phlegethon's Fresco Lungs album, which happens mix wisely heavy metal athmosphere with DM agressivity.
i'm suprised to find a person who knows about this band. the owner of knochenhaus, a metal-shop in zürich (switzerland), was the man behind witchhunt records, the label which released this and some other great albums.
finnish death metal bands which i enjoy, including demigod, demilich etc... are:
protected illusion, sacred crucifix, funebre, necropsy, septical schizo, abhorrence, convulse, interment [there is also a kick-ass swedish band with this name], carnifex, phlegethon, depravity, festerday, pestigore (very hard to find, but excellent!), god forsaken etc.. etc.. etc..
i share lots of finnish underground over dc++ and soulseek, so if anyone is intersted, send me a message
I wonder where could I get Convulse " World Without God" and Demilich "Nespithe". Nespithe should be relatively easy but Convulse's album seems to be a harder one. I understood that Relapse is going to re-issue it or something ?
Any of you familiar with Nokia Death Metal scene ?

I wouldn't count on Demilich being that easy. I got my copy from E-bay this month, but that's the only time I've seen it on there in 1 1/2 year. (Granted, I did not check daily, but I think I did check every two weeks.)

Well masterpieces like those don't stay that way forever, and when the day comes, I'll be there . . .

Yeah ! I found out just two months ago, that there was some Nokia Death metal scene in early 90's. Convulse formed some kind of elite of the scene with Purtenance and Depravity and they ought to have some kind of unique sound, but still this all is some how strange to believe from the place like Finland, but still there's a thing like swedish death metal, SO WHY NOT ?

Never heard of a Nokia scene.
A surprising question from a Finnish! The only thing that somehow seems logic to me is to try some shops in Kuopio (demilich's city, or so I've read) maybe you'll have more chances.

Well atleast their songs should be downloadable from their site, if you didn't mind not having the real copy
Nobody seems to have mentioned Waltari's classic: Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die! Death Metal Symphony in Deep C.
The band generally plays some kind of alternative metal/rock, but this is their take at death metal. An interesting collaboration with the Avanti! symphony orchestra. Not a masterpiece of technical death metal, but enjoyable enough.
Currently listening to Phlegethon, an excellent early Finnish Death Metal act. They recently reissued their back catalogue and I'd love to get ahold of it. Not much to say except its quite cult. Thought I'd mention it if no one knew, though I'm sure plenty do.
Yep, I got the reissue of their back catalogue when it came out. At this particular moment, my drunk ass remembers nothing but a couple of Slayer-esque riffs and a dank production, but that doesn't really mean anything I guess. I also remember I didn't give it enough time as I had a shitload of new music at the time. I'm going to stumble through my collection tonight trying to find it.

D'oh either Ctrl F lied to me or most likely my inability to spell . I definitely thought this was a long-over-due listen so I listened to Musta Seremonia, and forgot how truly great Rippikoulu are.

Purtenance! The band only existed for a couple years and released only one LP.
Member Of Immortal Damnation is a very nice effort but I like the sound of their demo under their previous name (Purtenance Avulsion) more. The drums sound terrible but hey, that's the way it was then
And the "Encapsulated" demo from Cartilage is worth mentionning too.
They had a split with Altar but I never heard it or saw it.
