Bloodbath - New Album Update

The Swedish death metallers Bloodbath have just issued an album update. Last year, the group said they would record their new album this year and so it is. The drums will be recorded next month and the band has 10 new songs. While they are not saying much more about it, at least you know it is moving along. Also, the "secret" new vocalist is yet to be announced but the band did give some clues about him today.

Message from the band: "UGHH! HEEEY! I SAID HEY! We got 10 songs down and we start recording drums next month! Still curious who's gonna sing on this one? Well, we'll leave you with these disasters to see if any of you smart-azzez can figure it out.

"Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors is found dead in his bathtub in Paris, France. A cyclone in the Bay of Bengal, in the Indian state of Odisha, kills 10,000. A fire at a 22-story hotel in Seoul, South Korea kills 158 people. A stairway crush as crowds leave the Rangers vs. Celtic football match in Glasgow, results in 66 deaths. A fire in a mental hospital at Burghölzli, Switzerland, kills 28 people. A landslide at Chungar, Peru crashes into Lake Yanahuani, killing 200. An earthquake lasting 20 seconds destroys most of Bingöl, Turkey - more than 1,000 are killed, 10,000 made homeless. An air crash at Rijeka Airport, Yugoslavia kills 78 people, mostly British tourists.

"The new singer for Bloodbath is born. Oh dear."

That would be 1971. Very helpful... Anyone comes to mind?

They've also said he is Swedish and quite a controversial pick.
Main suspect right now is Jörgen Sandström from The Project Hate MCMXCIX, and my two other suspects are Johan Edlund and Anette Olzon.

Seconding Anette Olzon. Her voice complements the music perfectly.

EDIT: A Google search reveals that the following vocalists were born in 1971:
-Randy Blythe (he did say he would be taking a break, but maybe he's trying to catch us all off guard; plus, he'd be controversial)
-Fenriz (lol)
-Paul Masvidal
-Attila Csihar

SECOND EDIT: He's Swedish. None of them are Swedish. I can't read.

I cannot even begin to comprehend the amount of fire that would catch in the death metal fanbase if this were to be.

Well, fuck 'em, I'd listen to this.

Dark Forever
Ruído Sonoro
According to MetalStorm database, the Swedish singers born in 1971 are, ordered by the probability I think they have of being the next Bloodbath vocalist:

- Johan Edlund (Tiamat)
- Jörgen Sandström (The Project Hate MCMXCIX)
- Ulf Cederlund (ex-Entombed)
- Anette Olzon (ex-Nightwish)
- Tomas Haake (Meshuggah's drummer, vocalist in the 1997 project Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects)
- Mårten Hagström (backing vocals on Meshuggah)
- Per Schelander (live backing vocals on Pain Of Salvation and Royal Hunt)

Either one of those, or he's not in MS database, or the database has someone's birth year wrong

Also given Fathomless Mastery was a bit too generic DM, maybe it's time for a change in pace.

Given that the project's design is to essentially pay homage to the old school death metal scene, I doubt they'll change much about their sound.

Nothing says "homage to old school Death Metal" like some punked up D-beat influenced Stockholm Death Metal. In any case Fathomless Mastery came across as a more modern sounding album.

Good points, actually. Normally I don't like throwback/revivalist stuff but if there's anyone who can make a good Dismembered album, it's Bloodbath.

My bet's on Jorgen Sandstrom. He was in Entombed and Grave, he'd be a perfect addition to this Swedish band.

A staff guy...
Jorgen Sandstrom does seem like a logical conclusion. He's well known in the Swedish scene and he does have a penchant for gore and anti-religious themes, which fit in perfectly with Bloodbath. But I think he might be a little too involved in his own dm bands, not to mention he already has a throwback/homage dm band, which I might add is even more throwback/homage than even Bloodbath due to only releasing demos and making them available for free download, which also pays homage to the old demo tape-trading days.
