Because the common calendar starts with year 1, it's first full decade is the years 1 to 10, the second decade from 11 to 20, and so on. That's how I count.

You're counting incorrectly then, because the 80's are from 1980-1989 and the 90's are from 1990-1999 and so on. Your way of counting doesn't make any sense whatsoever, not to mention it's 100% WRONG. I can't stand it when people make dumb stuff up and act like it's an opinion, because it's not.

To be fair, featuring an album from 1990 on here isn't totally incorrect in the sense that some/all of the music for that album may have been written in '89 or even earlier.

Of course, judging purely by release year, 1990 is a part of the '90s, not the '80s.

Wiki: "The 1990s, pronounced 'nineteen-nineties' or abbreviated as 'nineties', was a decade that began on January 1, 1990, and ended on December 31, 1999."

Well, in that case this list should be called "Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Of The 199th decade".

Since the 199th decade spans 1981 to 1990.

Very cool list with some brilliantly obscure stuff - only one I don't agree with is Angel Dust. Never liked the 80s output and though they got better when they reformed in the 90s and embraced Power Metal.

In my opinion, Angel Dust have only one perfect album - To Dust You Will Decay. Always heavy, speed and (originally and only) power metal from 80's than generic (I don't say gay) power metal from 90's. Again, my opinion and my taste.

Fair enough.

I like their power metal - it's still ballsy and not too generic compared to the power metal tripe coming out today.

I for 100% agree with the compiler of this list on Angel Dust.

I've just noticed you include 2 Demon albums.

Friend of mine had "Taking The World By Storm" on vinyl. Very cool album.

I'll need to check the ones you list on here if you think they're better than Taking TheWorld By Storm.

Taking The World By Storm is on third place on the list of Demon albums, but not in the 100 of decade. Their first two albums are much better than all other their albums.

Slayer is not even partially heavy metal band. Only thrash, thrash and thrash, but (probably) the best thrash metal band.

The thing is that there isn't actually a year 0. The calendar goes from 2 BC, 1 BC, 1 AD, etc. Therefore, the first decade (ten years) is from 1 AD to 10 AD, the second decade is 11 AD to 20 AD and so on and so forth. Which means that technically the 80's are the years 1981-1990. However, it is the common cultural belief that the 80's are the years 1980 - 1989.

The more you know.

Yes I have realize it right after I posted it. I was thinking of the whole heavy metal in general. Nobody cares about sub-genres back then anyway.

Nice to see Painkiller and Somewhere in Time in 1st and 2nd place.
If you're also considering thrash metal (you had Kill Em All and Rust in Peace, after all), then you should add Peace Sells and The Legacy (Testament) in my opinion
