Alcest-Le Secret. I recommend it to everyone, got it from Cryptic, great great haunting BM, but far from what you might expect.

Don't know if you could call it 'haunting' really. It's quite luminous and uplifting, for me anyway. Not really scary.

After the first listen of Alcest - Le Secret I have totally fallen in love with it, it is just fuckin insane. So awesome. Way up there with Drudkh.

Speaking about Drudkh, if you havent heard them get Autumn Aurora and Blood In Our Wells immidiatly!

Anyone interested in Alcest might want to check out Amesoeurs which is a new sideproject by Neige (the guy from Alcest and also Mortifera (rip)).

Is it ? I've been told it's dead and that's why Neige started Amesoeurs.

I've heard also there is a grudge between Neige and the other Mortifera's members.

for Neige it defenetly is, he left the band some time ago, but they did not disband.

I doubt it'll be the same thing without Neige but hey, i could be surprised. Let's hope they do no ruin the name Mortifera.

yeah, you might be right. but well, it is awesome though.

Yeah either way it's great. Can't wait to hear a full length (presuming it comes out this year coming as Neige suggested).

mixing both genres, the masterpiece of atmospheric black/death would be Rotting Christ's "Thy Mighty Contract"... original, shocking and superb in every way

Also eventhough Primordial is not Atmospheric BM, do listen to their latest album. It's great.

I've heard some refer to Septic Flesh as Atmospheric DM. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but Sumerian Daemons is a good listen either way.

Maybe The Chasm or Septic Flesh? And that's pushing it and only on certain songs. I suppose it can also be difficult to differentiate between whats Atmospheric and what's heavy elements of doom...

I find that they're more orientated around a specific cultural. or ethnic, pretext than what I would regard as "atmospheric." There's a certain vagueness and indefinability with atmospheric music. It's probably a personal thing really but I really don't know any predominantly atmospheric death metal bands: The concept seems to be mutually exclusive. Like an upbeat doom metal band.

There are tons of bands that create an 'atmosphere' but I doubt people would call them an atmospheric band. But again, looking back at most of these recommendations here in some way or another there's usually some sort of heavy doom element in their sound. Maybe that's it? I dunno, if someone could explain it better to me that'd be sweet.

I couldn't explain it personally. I'm quite comfortable with atmospheric black metal but as soon as death metal is introduced it becomes too too blasé and in your face to considered so. Then again for the most part I'm not really into death metal, bar a few bands.

Atmospheric black metal bands I really like: Walknut, ColdWorld, Ordo Templi Orientis, Twilight, and, of course, Drudkh.

Petrychor's Dryad album is fucking intense. Highly recommended.

Didn't like it. The guitar tone is terrible to be frank... the vocals don't do anything to me either: I mean it doesn't sound like proper BM singing. The keyboard parts are too loud... You liked it?

P.S. Sorry for being so negative, but I just didn't like it at all.

I've really been enjoying Black Metal that happens to have an atmospheric edge to it. My favorite overall has been Panopticon, but I'm also listening to a lot of stuff by Skagos, Fen, and Kataxu, and I'm keeping a close eye on young upstart bands like Oskoreien, Gallowbraid, and Petrychor.

I, too, quite enjoy Walknut. To me, it sounds like a modern version of Branikald.

Yeah, it's not hard to fall in love with their work. But I have a tough time liking Panopticon. I like his first album though, the self titled one but the recent one I still can't get into it. Fen is awesome as usual. Gallowbraid reminds me of October Falls. Petrychor is just immense. I'll check out Branikald soon.

An Autumn For Crippled Children. have you heard of them? I'm hooked to them now, really good atmospheric music. And then we have the usual suspects Darkspace, Evilfeast, Fauna, Impavida (although it's more labelled as Depressive, but it creates this eerie atmosphere that will suck you into it.. just like that Korean band Pyha) and Unheilvoll. Really good bands, worth checking out.
