So, one of the biggest ambient black metal bands released their new album this year. Time to lose some words on that. Darkspace from Switzerland continue their journey through the dark space (no pun intended as it's the actual name of their albums) with Dark Space III I. And not only that but even the songs are simply called "Dark 4.18", "Dark 4.19" and "Dark 4.20". Looks like the band is quite out of ideas, doesn't it? However, the important point is the music, so let's have a closer look at that.

Do they just suck at Roman numerals or are they trying something else?

Nope, they did that just to annoy you. I personally don't care if it's wrong, but it's a pain when I tried to look it up on search engines.

I often think that if I ever made a band the name, and album and song titles would consist of single digit numbers or letters. Just to make it totally unsearchable.

Like a witchhouse band? And the tracklist like Surachai?

Just to annoy Ilham.

I seriously think it's great to drop meaningless song and album titles, but hey, if you're going to be a pain in the ass, at least do it the right way like these guys.

I've often thought about that too
To make it unsearchable however, I'd probably just use extremely common words; like name the band Teapot, the album Table, the songs "Television" "Floor" and "Lamp."

That would be hilarious. Maybe calling the band "Band", the album "Album" and the songs "Song" would take the concept further. But just because of the Anchorman, I would love to see a song called "Lamp" and finally be able to say I LOVE LAMP and still be on-topic.

I started complaining about Darkspace being unsearchable, I forgot Krallice has worse song titles actually. But hey, as long as they deliver with this III I, I am willing to spend the extra thirty seconds looking for it on the interwebs.

Yes! And call every song "Song" even though they're all different songs! That would be a pain in the butt.

This is the closest I know. Notice the first two albums. One is self-titled. The other is untitled and the songs from both albums are untitled.

I just realized it would be even worse if both the albums had the same title... How would Metal Storm's database deal with that?

Well I have a different theory. III I = 3.1, which basically means it's a sequel or expansion to Darkspace III.
Wouldn't be surprised if they release III II later in their career. Kind of what BaN does with their albums. Their next album might still be DS IV.

My theory is that it's in fact the letter I, and not the Roman numeral for 1. Every I refers to an era of life, a representation of the band as a cohesive unit. With Darkspace I, it's the band's first life of their first era. Darkspace II has grown by 100%, which again grows 50% into Darkspace III. Now their EP, Darkspace -I, ends the first era at three lives. This new album is the first life of the band's second era. This second era will see more growth until a new EP, Darkspace -II, ends the second era and begins the third.

It's common sense guys use your heads.

^I thought about the space (III I) representing a new era, but the amount of 'I's just representing the 4th full length album.
(I also really wanted to comment "HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED" but then realized this isn't YouTube.)

In the teaser you can see the songs are called 4.18, 4.19, etc. which leads me to believe III I stands for 4 and not 3.1. I think they just didn't want to use Roman numerals because they're a mysterious band.

Also, on a more (or less?) related note: WHERE CAN I LISTEN TO THIS?!

Maybe for Dark Space III I they released their album in dark space literally, the fans have to go find it

On a more serious note, I would like to know the same thing.
