Sylosis - To Release New Album In January

Josh Middleton, guitarist/vocalist of the British quartet Sylosis, has recently confirmed their plan to release a new record titled Dormant Heart. The follow-up to 2012's Monolith was recorded at Wizard Sound Studios in the band's home town of Reading. Once again produced by Scott Atkins and mastered by Middleton and Acle Kahney.

Middleton says: "The title Dormant Heart refers to people going through life on autopilot and being one of the herd. A lot of people simply accept the way things are just because it's tradition, as opposed to taking a good look at the world around you and thinking for yourself. Sometimes there are catalysts that change our perspective.

"It's the most pissed-off, aggressive and intense album we've done - yet it still retains the epic, progressive and melodic side we're also known for. It's very gloomy and atmospheric. We've been through a lot as a band and individuals, and we've made our darkest album to date."

Dormant Heart is set for release on January 12th via Nuclear Blast. It's their first album since the departure of drummer Rob Callard, who's been replaced by Ali Richardson of Bleed From Within.

I could go for a darker, pissed-off side of Sylosis.

Glad there'll be more 'epic, progressive and melodic' music to come, and gloomy, atmospheric and aggressive sounds great, although the whole 'it's our most XXXX album' is a tad cliched. Wonder if in their aggression some of their mentioned sludge influences might creep in, might be pretty awesome. Anyway, 3 albums in and they've continually improved, very much looking forward to see what they manage this time.
