There's really something special about finding a band like this - young, energetic and untainted by over-familiarity. Hearing Phosphorus' full-length debut is akin to hearing Absu or Skeletonwitch for the first time all over again.

Ok, to be fair, these guys have been buying me lambos' and escorts in exchange for positive reviews for years. Yet, despite being pretty familiar with their brand of Absu-esque thrashed-out black metal, Assassinat comes as a lovely little surprise. It's pure, undiluted, unpretentious, straight-forward extreme metal played with furious conviction. Yeah, I'm well aware of how much of a shitty cop-out it is to use cliché phrases like that, but when you come across something as powerful and direct as Assassinat, there's really no other way to put it. It's vicious and chaotic without sacrificing any of that infectious riff appeal...and is it ever appealing! If blistering riffs get your proverbial dick hard (and they should), tracks like "Crepuscule" and "Hiver Noir" will give you more than plenty to proverbially tug on.

Assassinat gives off vibes similar to that of Skeletonwitch's Breathing The Fire, while it doesn't hold much resemblance sound-wise, the pace of the album is basically the same. Phosphorus set phasers to "wrecking shit", and don't switch it off...ever. It is a little bulldozer of an album. Unfortunately, that's all it really is. This album is so consistently in-your-face there's little to no room for subtleties, which is fine, if you don't mind running out of fresh surprises by track 3.

If "fresh" and "unpredictable" are words you like to use to describe your musical tastes, Phosphorus probably isn't for you. On the other hand, if you're not a snob and just need a good sound-track for your Tuesday evening knife-fight club, then look no further.
