It seems like exciting new record labels are sprouting up every day. Some of my recent go to labels have been: Dark Descent, I, Voidhanger, Pulverised and Avantgarde. These go along with some of the older ones that still crank out solid releases: Profound Lore, Relapse, Prosthetic and Season of Mist. What are some of your favorite labels and some of their best recent releases?

The first that comes to mind is Throatruiner. But then there's also Throatruiner. Oh I almost forgot Throatruiner.

Nice idea for a thread btw.

Ah and IB4 Joe: Crepusculo Negro and Rhinocervs.

I prefer Throat Runner.

And lol, yes, unfortunately Rhinocervs doesn't seem to have a Bandcamp so all the "Rhinocervs" titled projects aren't easily accessible.

I'd also add Nuclear War Now, Iron Bonehead Productions, Invictus Productions, Debemur Mortii, Crucial Blast, The Flenser, Paradigms Recordings though they've been pretty quiet recently.

Yeah that was a silly first comment. But really the labels I am always checking once in a while are Throatruiner (there is not one single band I dislike in their ranks and they never sign with one that doesn't have very specific edge), A 389 Recording for more straightforward releases, and Deathwish if I'm feeling depressed. I'm starting to follow Good Fight as well.

Southern Lord, Deathwish and Relapse.

And Hydrahead before that, but I don't think they release much anymore.

Throatruiner is great too.

By the way, what the hell happened to NoEvDia? Haven't heard anyone talking about them in a while.

They put out the Teitanblood and the Dead Congregation releases this year. That's it though. They had a DsO EP put out in 2012 (the yucky Drought) but really not much to speak of in recent times.

Only the vinyl version of the Dead Congregation album.

But NED have never put out much. Just 58 releases up to now.

Deadone remembers the joys of exploring Nuclear Blast, Century Media, Earache and Peaceville offerings whilst Pop Punk and Nu Metal raged on in the mainstream.

I wouldn't call Nuclear Blast and Century Media extreme metal labels, also not when Pop Punk and Nu Metal raged. Yes, they have a couple of extreme metal bands on their roster, but that's it. Also old Roadrunner I won't call an extreme metal label even though they were more or less the first truly metal label with lots of for that time extreme bands.

Cradle of Filth was signed to Music For Nations.

I don't follow labels, don't care only for band editing and news so I forgot

Maybe I'm cheating a bit here because it's not always extreme metal, but Candlelight I think is also of worthy note

If you like derivative but decent (mostly) black metal, there's also W.T.C. Productions with bands such as Ascension, Thy Darkened Shade, Fides Inversa, Tortorum, Horna and Order Of Orias.

Osmose, like Avantgarde Music, is still a good label, but not as important as they were before.
To me, the best current labels are Profound Lore and Southern Lord.
Both manage to good to associate professionalism with lowering the originality of their music

-Morbid-

I'm still pissed at Osmose for that batch of releases in the early 2000's that had screwed up anti-copyright stuff that made lots of modern CD players (including the one in my car) unable to play them. I believe I have 3 of them, but the only one I can remember off the top of my head is Impaled Nazarene's Absence of War.

Tired as it's almost 5 am here so I'm probably forgetting a few or misremembering, but off the top of my head:

Willowtip: I like tech-death so they have a lot of good releases.
SelfMadeGod: A pretty good mix of stuff, mostly death/thrash/grind. Some very solid releases.
SoulFlesh Collector: Pretty good selection of brutal death metal stuff.
Doomentia Records: A good variety of stuff with some pretty interesting releases. It's pretty easy to find something new to listen to there.
Hell's Headbangers: Usually leans towards "old school" death/thrash/black stuff but they have some great stuff and usually do a good job with the packaging (Destruktor's Nailed album is probably one of my favorite non-limited/special edition packaging jobs I've seen in recent memory).
Debemur Morti: Some odd stuff but another place I like to go when I'm in an adventurous mood. Have a few releases from there too and they also do a great job with packaging.
Agonia Records: Good variety and again do a good job with the packaging.
Prosthetic Records: Used to think of these guys as a metalcore label for some reason, but I've been noticing more releases by them from bands I like.

Special mention to Comatose Records as well. Some of their stuff is pretty plain brutal death metal but they do have some great releases and they are also a distro that I have had pleasant experiences with in the past.

Anybody bought cassette tapes from this label? Any comments about the quality/service?
