What Metal compilations does everyone here like? It may be a sampler, a cd that came with a magazine, or a compilation by a record company or anything else.

My favourite compilation is Battle Metal II. It came free when I bought an issue of Metal Hammer (an issue that didn't look as bad for once). It turned out that the issue was as bad as usual but it came with an awesome compilation cd, which made it completely worth my $10. The cd has lots of tracks that have the 'Battle Metal' theme. More tracks that have the lyrical theme of Battles and stuff, rather than songs of the disputed 'style'. It has some great songs from such bands as Venom, Sonata Arctica, Korpiklaani, Demons and Wizards, Kamelot, Mob Rules, Saxon, Primal Fear and contains the very song 'Battle Metal' by Turisas. They chose some great new songs that have the battle theme, and managed to dodge my current Metal collection almost entirely!

Another compilation that I have and like is a 1995 Earache sampler. This is a thread about discussing your favourite Metal Compilations and basically everything about them. So what is everyone else's thoughts?

I usually tend to not buy compilation albums, but I got this one in Metal Hammer (Yeah, I know....), it's called "The Final Resistance", it's got a lot of Death/ Gothenburg stuff on it. It got me into a lot of really good bands.

My personal favorite was one simply called "The Heavy Metal Box set" its shaped like a Marshal amp, except it says 'Heavy Metal' in the Marshal writing where it would usually say Marshal. But there is just as much substance as flash, its a 4-disc set, and comes with a nice thick booklet with lots of pictures, a short synopsis of each band & song on the compilation, as well as a few interviews and a bit of history. It mostly covers classic songs from 70's, 80's and early 90's. And I dont think theres a single song in any of the 4 discs I dont like other than the 1 Stryper song they included.

Well I have to say My favorite is 40 Seasons from Skid Row. It would have been perfect if they would have added Little Wind, Children Of The Damned, and In a Darkened Room, but nevertheless I'm always listening to that shit. Some great tunes on that shit though. A must have for Skid Row fans

Though I don't personally own any, I know of Metal Blade's Metal Massacre Compilation's to be of a pretty high quality, regarding the bands and the songs. Though, the quality seemed to have lessoned a bit as it got older and eventually stopped, but it's good to look into.

The greatest compilation I have would be This Is Metal release by Magick if I'm not mistaken. It's packed with almost all of the metal genre that exists and is a great way to see what subgenre you would like the most.3 cd's including band such as Icarius Witch, Paragon,Firewind,Opera IX,Wehrwolfe and many many more.

The best compilation I 've got is "Worldwide Metal" a 5cd-box released by Earache at the end of 2008.
The 5 cd's are split into: USA1, UK, Scandinavia, Europe and USA2.
Over 80 songs. No need to list it: you know what you get from Earache: good stuff!

I'm normally not much into compilations - I sometimes listen to the ones I get with all the mags - but more often than not I don't bother. (So much music - so little time)

I am partial to Doom Capital: Maryland / DC Heavy Rock Underground Compilation - a collection of doom(ish) bands from the this area and style. There are some pretty good music on here.

vulgar talent

My favorite are the Trapped Under Vice comps/mixtapes by Fenriz, aka DJ Vast Knowledge Of Music, which are free from VICE.

Every year A389 Records puts out a free digital compilation on their website if you're into those bands. Actual Pain also puts out their own mixtapes too which have some gems on them.

There's also a website called 8tracks were people make their own playlists you can listen to. It's a website for all genres and moods, but if you look hard enough there's a lot a amazing metal playlists.

These days where pretty much every song is available on the internet, samplers are kinda pointless. The only sampler I own I got for free. A victory record's compilation at a Pathology concert. It's just a bunch of crappy -core bands.
