my experience with them has been somewhat poisoned, much as I love IE, much as I love Schaffer as a musician. Seems like he might have his conviction thrown out pretty soon, but the damage has already been done.
@Metren: I feel similarly. It's a fantastic composition but the last time I listened to it I started hearing the lyrics in a different way. Now there are some Iced Earth songs that just draw me back to Schaffer's ideology and
Varg is and will forever be a major dingus, but yes, his writings and videos were both hilarious simply for the sake of morbid curiosity if nothing else
01. Suffocation, A Burial: I - Awoken (Breathing Teeth) 02. Judgement, In Fire: I - Garden (Of Blooming Ash) 03. Suffocation, A Drowning: II - Somniloquy (The Distance Of Forever) 04. Judgement, In Air: II - Felled (In Howling Wind)
Funeral doom has always struck me as a very hit or miss style of music. You either get albums from bands that are totally monumental, crushing, and epic, or ones that somehow just can't figure out the trick and are instead boring, overly plodding, and uninspired, with very little to be found in between these extremes. Four Phantoms, the sophomore effort from the American Bell Witch, is a curious release in this regard, one that first appears to be in that second area, but begins to move to the first as its grandiosity is slowly revealed.
2 lads so less instruments, just few and so complex and great music .... I think sine I know MS S and E music taste .. this album will be nominated to MS awards

I better die, because I never will learn speek english, so I choose dieing
This comes across as much more melancholic than Longing, which had a more savage edge to it. Definitely a worthy successor to one of my favorite doom albums of 2012, however whether or not it is as good I will leave up to subsequent listens.
I can hardly believe this is just a bassist and a drummer...this is some amazing funeral doom. It may take a titan like Ahab to take down this release as my number 1 funeral doom album of the year (assuming Ahab's release will be a little more funeral than post).
Spun it 3 or 4 times today. I love this genre and the subtleties it has to offer.
This is definitely music that grows on you over time. My first three or so listens to this had me feeling the same way I did when I first listened to Longing: that it's good stuff, but kind of boring and repeatedly lagging at points. Now, however, I can definitely see the subtle shades of genius lurking within here. Really great, slowly built up atmosphere, and that bassist is just incredible. He plays a 6 string and puts a shit ton of effects on it, until I saw these guys at Roadburn actually I had no idea there was no guitar in the band.
---- I am the Magician and the Exorcist. I am the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle. “Come unto me” is a foolish word: for it is I that go.

I guess there's still hope then, because I feel like it's kind of boring as well, after 2 spins.
I actually don't like this album. Might as well get that out the way.
Please, you havent even listened to it. Listen to Suffocation, A Drowning: II - Somniloquy (The Distance of Forever) and then tell me it isnt indie/funeral. Great album your loss.

I listened to it, and saw some of it played live. Better live, but still not great.

I missed it live but its incredible on any substance, its psychedelic parts are mindblowing. Walking (creeping) around in a big spruce forest with 50 cms of snow with this album has to be as good as it gets live.
