Only on MetalStorm it seems. No Doom at all? I have a playlist with 50 different Melodic Death Metal bands and none sound nowhere near Novembers Doom.

The have been melodeath ever since I.N.R.I.. Yes, no doom at all since that album. Playing slow at times does not equate to playing doom at times.

Btw, I don't agree with quite a few of our staff picks to be honest. But that's the problem with a big staff voting.

Really the only major disagreements I have here are with Avantgarde and Sludge, which should've gone to Lux Occulta and Coffinworm, in my opinion. All the other genres are either legit, or I just don't like enough to care

Totally agree with you about Lux Occulta

@ Cynic Metalhead: obviously, yeah they look decent, and good enough as a whole. On a personal level, sometimes it's another matter

You Staff, surely have terrible taste!

While I appreciate your attempts to bring revolutionary dissent and fear to the tyrannical Metal Storm hierarchy, V, it must be noted that your tactics are rather weak. For future reference, phosphorous grenades, nail bombs, and anti-personnel fragmentation mines tend to do the trick.

Haha!
Actually, it sounds my taste is terrible too, since non of my best albums was not even on the final list!
Although, I believe 2014 was not a shining year for Metal Scene, I had enjoyed some albums a lot which are as below:

Ambient, Dark Folk: Musk Ox - Woodfall
Doom Metal: Frequency Of Butterfly Wings - The Weight Of Existence
Extreme Progressive Metal: Ne Obliviscaris - Citadel
Hard Rock: Order Of Israfel - Wisdom
Heavy / Melodic Metal: Adrenaline Mob - Men Of Honor
Melodic Black Metal: Holdaar - Времена Уходящи&
Metalgaze: Empyrium - The Turn Of The Tides
Post-Metal: Sólstafir - Ótta
Melodic Death Metal: Ghost Brigade - IV - One With The Storm
Best Debut Album: Twilight's Embrace - By Darkness Undone

Sadly, you, guys, put Ghost Brigade and Solstafir in one category, so I didnt have any other option in melodeath.
Now, you have reason to laugh!

Good suggestions! I'll think about it! Maybe I hire you, Pharmacist, in my army, to break down the rule of this Arch Enemy - Metal Storm -

they are the collective picks. we all have our right to publish our own lists/picks/whatever. i cannot complain, truthfully. my fave Industrial won (not a shock) and Extreme Doom had a trio of finalists I would have been happy with, including Profetus.

My fave Black Metal didn't even make the cut. And while I was mildly upset Chaos Moon didn't make the BM cut, Doom was perhaps symbolic of the entire year. N.E.A. Not. Even. Arsed. I voted Blood Flowers, but they didn't move my like entries in years past did.

Granted I had some real life issues impact the year - the big move and all - but for the most part it just seemed largely mediocre. to the point i didn't even bother with a year end column, article, or even lazy ass list.

We're not even 90 days in to 2015 and I'm already far more excited about what's come out.

Agreed. I'm not complaining, it's a great album and there wasn't much else offered in 2014 in the thrash department, but I cannot believe people actually hear thrash in Goatwhore. Always been straight-up blackened death to me.

I mean I get there's thrash in the album, I totally do, never said there wasn't any thrash in Goatwhore -_- but ... really ?
It wouldn't be anything close from being best ''thrash'' of 2014 for me.
-_- This shit's beyond me.

I do admit it's a solid work though...

I agree. Thrash wasn't really a thing last year... Or any year for a damn while ago. Preferences aside, I'm extremely surprised that some people can't hear thrash in the latest couple of albums by Goatwhore. My oinion of them only got confirmed when I saw them live... That shit is so thrash.

I personally prefer Body Count though.

Well Body Count (good one, I'd say) was considered for Hardcore, not Thrash.

As for Goatwhore, come on... nom'ing them in death? WTF, seriously? Black, maybe... but seriously thrash was the best of those (damn those crossgenres bands ), and indeed it blex the (uninspired) competition out of the water

Interesting as it is a crossover album which falls in the thrash categroy.

Crossover is a fence-thing. They have shit-tons of hardcore just as well as thrash. I'd still consider ghoul for thrash but I agree with Revocation. Oh well.
