That is an awesome staff pick right as I'm planning a little trip to see Haken live. Thank you.

Saying this is similar to Haken could be good or bad given that The Mountain was a masterpiece and their other releases weren't as good.

I listened to a few of songs but it did not appeal to me much, they're trying too hard to sound original (kudos for that anyway), but the sound seems all over the place, taking influences from too many places, did not sound cohesive to me. Maybe I lacked the focus or patience for it, I dunno

I might just give it another chance.

It is indeed similar to Haken.
Growls are shit though, ruin the album IMO.

I'm well aware of the statement being open to interpretation. The ambiguity is intentional. It did it's job, though.

Why don't you listen to the first track and decide yourself? Wouldn't like this be a quality that is immediately apparent?

Not much of a contest there - DT's vocalist is far worse

The main thing that keeps me from checking this out is that the one single video I saw in promotion for this was one of those "guitar-cam only" videos, which always give me that ominous vibe, considering I'm not a fan of almost all other bands that do that. It's just one of those 'bad signs' you end up weary of after a while.

That being said, I guess I'll have to check it out eventually, eh?

What an absurd excuse, man. Not liking the album is fine, not checking out because of that is weird.

Give me at least some credit mate. I never said I wasn't gonna check it out, just that it made me hesitant. I'm still gonna listen to the album, and I know that shit doesn't affect my judgement anyway. It's just a sign I prefer not to see.

Damn it, I was planning on doing that! I've got a better idea for a sign-off anyway...

Just listened to this again yesterday, it's a damn creative record. Slightly haphazard at points, but then again my tastes generally lean in that direction, i.e. anyone who doesn't appreciate something over-the-top will find this a complete mess.

Kiwis are my favourite fruit! (well, not my ABSOLUTE favourite, but they're up there)

And yeah, this definitely seems to be one for fans of the more playful side of the music world. I actually got some Project RnL vibes from this at specific points, in addition to the expected Haken feel. I'll give it to this one, it knows how to catch you off guard, and that was pretty obvious from the intro track alone. It takes a good number of risks in variety and this makes me quite happy because if there was one thing I felt was missing in the vanilla prog scene, it's risk-taking.

Definitely one that managed to impress me despite not leaving me on the best of first impressions. About a 7-8 for me, and it'll probably keep shifting between the two as time goes on.

Pretty much spot on with your description. The first listen was a bit rough, but the second and third time around it's awesome Sounds like I need to check out this Project RnL...
