Hey, is anyone on MS into jazz fusion acts? If so I'd love to hear about insights about the kind of music, its connection with prog rock, and what your favourite artists are.

As a start, let me just say my favourite jazz fusion groups so far are Mahavishnu Orchestra (the original act, with album The Inner Mounting Flame) and Return to Forever (with album Romantic Warrior). They definitely suit my proggy sensibilities, and I somehow think of bands like Yes as I listen to those albums. I also find the act Last Exit to be an interesting form of jazz fusion accessible for metalheads.

Mandatory reference to Snarky Puppy's live album from last year. It was pretty much an album that captured that proggy side of jazz fusion perfectly.



This is one I'd recommend seeing all the way through. It's one of those tracks that's always changing slightly, growing into completion.
