I am looking for black metal bands in the 90s that didn't get well known but they were awesome.I don't mean bands like Darkthrone or Mayhem but for bands that never became famous in black metal.

Magog, Armauk, Litania, Fjeld(Sweden) Luctus(Lithainia) Nightwing(Latvia) Moonblod(germany) Izpovest or Izspovest from Serbia Magod - Thay play wiking balck metal and are from midle of Sweden, thay had 5 demos, and I douloud one, and its real viking metal, one song has 13 minutes, and lyrics are great. Like Blacgirl sad use metal archives and find link there Armauk - Thay arent satanists and thay play strange BM, because lyriv are so deep, peacefull, and thay still are teenagers, I dounloud all emos from site(Thay are in MA) and I like this band, its one of non satanic BM bands Litania - Thay remainds me old school days, thats why I mention tham, and music are like BM mix whit Venom music Luctus play pure bM, I mention them because thay are from Lithainia, its one man band and thay never be popular, now Luctus live in Roma Nightwing - same reason because thaya re from latvia Izpovest I mention because lyrics are in serbian and band has 2 demos, I had 2 songs, and once I try translate lyric from serbian to english and I translate it 70% corect, maybe I post it here some day All bands are in MA

stop posting lists.. Explain WHY these bands are good. Do you actually think he can do ANYTHING with just a big list of bands? We have metal-archives for that.. geez. Anyway, you already received some of my recommendations through PM. Already tried some of it?

Dodheimsgard are good. They're Norwegian BM but also do a bit of avant garde and industrial so it's something newer and deviates from the BM norm. I know that there are a number of people who have heard of them though.

Just to avoid any confusing with my gender. You misunderstood me though. There are lists on metal-archives, but we can't find explanations about bands there. That's why I said "explain the bands you are recommending" so the topic creator knows what type of BM he can expect, if it is his thing etc.

Vintersemestre Only released one full-length, "Kirkkokyrpä," before splitting up. Despite the name the album is IMO quite good, well above the average. I don't know how to describe them, I guess there's nothing really "special" in their sound, just well made basic black metal I'd say. @Kariasakis7: Moonsorrow is from Finland and quite well known, also one could argue about them being black metal.

IMO the most underrated BM band is Nihil Nocturne... they hail from Germany and I like them actually more than some of the big Norwegian bands... their album "Necrohell" is awesome, and they also released my favourite BM album so far in this year.

Maybe they are more well known then your avarege underground BM band, but try Blut Aus Nord (The Work Wich Transforms God), Crystalium (De Aeternitate Commando), and for fun check out the bands from LLN, although I doubt that anyone likes these bands.

19.06.2006 - 11:27 Written by Guest on 19.06.2006 at 02:28 Although I recommend this one man band, it is not BM, maybe his first works, but not his 2005 release, wich is black/doom. BTW Beatrik didn't get well known in the 90s, cuz Flames was released in 2000 .

19.06.2006 - 16:35 Written by Damnated on 19.06.2006 at 16:26 Why? Here in Italy (though most of these I nominated are italian) very few metalheads know these bands.

19.06.2006 - 16:47 Written by dark awakening on 19.06.2006 at 16:35 These bands are pretty much not well known, but famous (Enslaved, Opera IX, Abigor, Aborym) or quite new (A Forest, Imago Mortis). And you have to look at the metal bands in general, not their popularity compared to the mainstream.
