At least with Slipknot anyone who isn't a metalhead would call it metal.

And everyone who isn't a metalhead would call SOAD metal.

But they DON'T. I've probably seen more people call them hard rock than metal. I personally didn't consider them metal before I was into metal. Meanwhile no one calls Slipknot hard rock.

I've never known anyone to call SoaD a hard rock band, unless they were specifically referring to stuff from the last two records. They've always been known as metal, both to metallers and non metallers.

I made a poll for this very reason and the result was overwhelmingly in favour of metal. Not ideal as this is a metal website, but it stands to reason that to someone not familiar with metal would call them metal because of their heaviness / abrasiveness.

Well everyone I know that is not a fan of Metal in general and know System of a Down calls it metal.. I've never heard anyone (EVER) call SOAD a hard rock band XD.

Well I have. Maybe it's a younger generation thing, we think metal is hard rock .
