Tunes Of Wacken is actually the first live Grave Digger album in their long career. As the title says, the album was recorded at the famous metal festival in Wacken, Germany. Despite the fact that they were already under the label Nuclear Blast, where they were planning to release an album, "The Grave Digger", their old label (that published Tunes Of Wacken) didn't allow them to play songs from the upcoming album.

So what can we find here? Tunes Of Wacken contains songs from albums from the 90's (only the Symphony Of Death EP is not represented). The only older song we can find is the legendary "Heavy Metal Breakdown" as the last track. The album is pretty short for the live one, it is only a little more than 60 minutes long, but we must know that they had limited time to play. Grave Digger's performance is great, also collaboration of public, it is also very well produced. Every single song on the album fits in perfectly. The only thing that I didn't like was the intro with the Scottish bagpipes, from album Tunes Of War. They could've chosen a better intro in my opinion.

The whole album ends too soon, as I already said, but is otherwise great. If you are looking for Grave Digger's older stuff, this album probably isn't for you, but if you are a fan of their newer material and you want to get closer to their 'Middle Age Era', is this album made for you. If you aren't new to Grave Digger, you better check out their last live album "25 To Live" which is much longer and contains many more songs, but if you know only their albums from The Grave Digger forward, this could be great insight into their best stuff from the 90's.
