Akercocke, from UK.... Play a blackened form of Death Metal... I purchased 'Words that go unspoken...' and really liked it. However i standy by Chorozone as being their best album...

What does everyone else think of this band in general?

Guess that's what happens when you organize two shows at the same venue in one night..

Why? I don't think that that matters since Akercocke draw an almost (I'd say 90%) different crowd than Saxon and Masterplan. Most Saxon/Masterplan fans aren't interested in Akercocke live and most Akercocke fans aren't interested in Saxon/Masterplan live.

But 47 is a disgrace. Only time I have seen a gig with less people was in 1992 when U.D.O. played in Paradiso, Amsterdam for just 25 people (of which 20 were on the guestlist, so only 5 paying visitors.)

Oh and Guns 'n' Roses first concert ever in the Netherlands (also in Paradiso, Amsterdam) was attended by only 60 people (me being one of the lucky few)

Still, it is a massive shame, Akercocke are an amazing band, and to only sell 47 tickets is some what of a digrace, and a failure in terms of advertising etc...

You maybe right, but that's still 10%. And I presume Akercocke got the smaller club. Less advertisement?

Yeah, thats what I guessed, the lack of advertising was probably to blame, rather than lack of fans in the area or something similar.

no no no.. you would imagine Saxon to draw out a different audience, but these days most people like both melodic and extreme types of metal..
I would have said 75% of the people there to see Saxon would have been there to see Akercocke if they wern't playing on the same night..
I know I would have been there for Akercocke and I know quite a few other people that were there to see Saxon that would have loved to have seen Akercocke as well

I just watched Akercocke on the BBC Northern Ireland show doing an interview via web-link (backstage in Nottingham where I've done all my interviews ) and I must say the interview seemed to go the whole way of Akercocke.. the two religious idiots they had there totally did not understand that everyone should have the right to preach whatever they want. they kept saying that they should not be allowed to play, but who are they to stop them!

its just another case of poor poor pathetic, ignorant religious people not knowing where Akercocke stand and what they do
I am not saying I am agaisnt religion at all, but I am agaisnt people trying to stop bands like Akercocke just because its not their cup of tea

I saw that too!! Seems we watch the same things on telly, Baz - I just replied to your post about Q.I., and now that programme on BBC Northern Ireland..!

I agree with you that the interview went Akercocke's way. I admired the way they came across. The Christians in the studio were getting hot under the collar, but the Akercocke guys were really well spoken and polite, and refreshingly a million miles away from the hateful image that some may associate with that sort of music. It was difficult to hold much of a debate because there was a time delay, but they still made some very good points, and in a mature, friendly way.

My favourite bit though was the singer saying "we salute you" about eight different times throughout the interview!

yes indeed!! usually the most annoying things is people's ignorant preconceptions of what satanists looks like and what they believe, etc.
its a shame more people didn't see it and understand that satanists can be well spoken, intelligent people as well.

haha yes, he seemed to be enjoying that glass of wine!
it still annoying for me because I was under the same roof as them that night (it was after their show) but I didnt get to see them

Quite messy at times, maybe because of the accent and the quality of YouTube and my speakers.

A real shame there was so much delay, I'd have liked to see this conversation become and actual debate.

Of course it would not have that effect. I wouldn't want it to have that effect.

Because, you can't deny it, we love CONTROVERSY!

Though I suppose it can be a little annoying to people who can hardly see bands live cause of these people.

Interview

Hey thanks for the tip on the television and radio interviews - I likely would have missed out on them since I don't get the BBC at my place - nor do I regularly check band's pages for that sort of thing as more often then not they aren't as entertaining as this!

I found the radio interview more informative in terms of where Akercocke (Jason in particular) stands. I had a strong feeling his personal beliefs in religion were similar to what he states: Jesus existed but has been overhyped by believers, etc., and that he personally doesn't follow a major religion. It's so rare to get direct information about band members during interviews I read, as so much of focuses on the music/scene aspects, but little on the individual members' thoughts on life and such. I guess you need a controversial subject to really get that sort of thing out in the open.

At times I felt like I was watching clips of those old Judas Priest trials (or whatever it was) from the 1980s - at least that's when I remember seeing that sort of thing when I was 8 or 9. It seems times haven't changed much - only the technology we use!

Jason was much better spoken on the radio interview - likely because of that time delay issue. I think the difference from his calmness and straightforward approach to the excited, overly emotional approach of many of the Akercocke-haters really shows that what Akercocke does as a band musically and promotionally is fully sucessful.

I also am satisfied to hear Jason imply that the band's first record is likely not the band's most intellectual effort. I personally agree, and feel that the band has improved their approach with each album. Their '05 release shows immense intelligence, and their newest release is different, yet equally as interesting. They aren't just playing for sarcastic shock value anymore, but are now one of the more interesting bands out there.

I thought the Akercocke chaps came off pretty well in that. A bit annoying that they seemed to back down at a couple of points, but then again it was obvious they weren't taking it too seriously. Rightly so.

And I just noticed yesterday that they're coming to Australia soon. Fuck yes.

Hey thanks for the link "Axiom" is for sure one of my favorite tracks on the new Antichrist album. It looks like the US release will be July 17th, so I'll have to wait until then to get the retail CD. The other track I'm currently listening to over and over is "My Apterous Angel."

I'm curious to see if anything noteworthy happens in the video, or if it's just the band playing with a bunch of attractive women around. Not that this is a bad thing, but videos with stories are so much more memorable!

On the metal show on the radio last night they played a track from the new Antichrist album, I thought it was quite crap on first impression to be honest. Appologies that I didnt get the track title, but it had a softish intro with him 'singing' and atmosphereic (kind of) instruments being used and the double kick going. The double kicked was completely out of time!! The soft vocal attempt wasnt too bad, but please, just didnt gel with me.

That was on first listen on just one track. Maybe it'll grow on me, but might have to check out more tracks before I go buying this album, as that track was horrid imo. Have a couple of other albums though havnt listened to them yet, but will do today as im interested it getting into them.

Of nothing, it's the principle of MS . I'm happy to find a lot of information here, and when I get one, I share it.

And you have right, 'Axiom' is a great song, one of the best for me too. But I don't still understand the problems with this album in your country, leading to controversy whit an hypothetical 'anti-Christian' perspective. Frankly, I hope you can get your hands on this album without problems. It's a really good peace of metal.

Yeah, firstly, thanks for the link from me too. Axiom is certainly a brilliant song..

And, secondly, I agree, I wonder what will happen in the video, Im not one to say that scantily clad beauts wandering around Akercocke performing is a bad thing either, but a story or some sort of plot to the video wouldnt go amiss.

So, the entire video from the song 'Axiom' can now be seen either on their myspace site, or youtube...

What does everyone think?

.... To be honest, If people havent seen it and want a basic run down of what it consists of.. Very little storyline or plot (If Any), Two Gorgeous Beuts Getting Quite Close, And The Band Playing Under A Dress.....

Weird, But Effective, I like It... Gives Akercocke Quite A Dark Feel. But still, The Women keep the theme of Previous videos Alive.

I received the new album in the mail yesterday and I think it's fucking great. The thing about Akercocke that I love is that they always put elements in their music that I don't expect. I was completely thrown off by the guitar solos in tracks 2 and 3, and Jason's singing voice sounded a little different to me. It sounded like he wanted to put more emotion into his clean vocals, and there also seems to be more clean singing than ever before. I don't know how I'd rank this among their other albums, but it's definitely a worthy purchase.

I love this video...its just so, redeeming? Akercocke was just cool, just chilled out and talked coherently...maybe that something that those nuts didnt consider. Their attitude was pretty typical IMO, nothing special.

Antichrist is a great album btw, axiom is a really interesting song...but heavy though. Looking forward to get into their prior releases.

This interview has caught my intrest in them as well. I really liked how they were caught off guard. Here's what I bet their thoughts were "la la la la la, just casually here on a talk show in Ireland, gonna discuss the tour, the fans are great. I can't wait for this interview!" then the host says "What's so great about the anti-christ?"
The look on their faces......priceless

But this does show me the exceeding ignorance of organized religion, just mindlessly blabbering about things which they have no knowledge of. And what's more, what was this Bullshit about "waking up in a puddle of your own puke"? The attitude of these guys disgusts me

For now, I still consider that 'Words That Go Unspoken...' is their best. But maybe it's because that's the one with which I discovered them.
Antichrist is really good, but I found it more difficult yo dig in. And Choronzon disappointed me a little bit, but I maybe expected too much.
