I have Close To A World Below and I play it constantly over these last two weeks. Great, twisted riffs, pounding drums, very awesome low-pitched (but not too monotonous) vocals and great, I do mean great, solos!
I have not yet heard their other releases, but I hope they are as good as CTAWB
Any opinions on this band?

Try "The Pete Flesh Deathtrip" instead, extremely brutal band with enough experimental elements to keep from becoming monotonous.

I had a small debate wether to buy an Immolation album and those two were the options together with Close To A World Below which was the one I ended up buying.  CTAWB is in-fucking-sane... The drumming is just immense. Have to pick up my jaw everytime I listen closely to the drums.

Im just seeing this thread here and I love this band. I have been playing their newest effort Atonement and I fucking love it. It definitely harkens back to an older-school death metal feel and I just cant help but throw it in the cd player late at night while ive got a candle or two burning. Great witching hour music... -I am now become death.
