As of now we have numerous bands under each of these genre tags (for ex: post-rock band_id=1962 and post rock band_id=1945 and we should choose just one as the official genre tag once and for all.

The prefix "post-" always requires a hyphen according to the rules of proper English usage. Thus, the correct forms are "post-rock" and "post-metal."
