Had previously heard parts of gorguts, and am checking it now. Indeed I think it is going to make it here.
Was not so impressed by kayo dot tbh based on two tracks I heard. It was a bit messy and the experimentation seemed not to be working.

It is pretty recent.
Avantgarde music had become a safe source of not-so-crazy- Black Metal for me. Many of the albums they put is just Okish, but you can be sure that they have something great each year.

Fair enough. I don't think you'll end up enjoying it, then. I'm 100% sold on Toby Driver's new trajectory and I've been super impressed. I'll be sure to check out some of your suggestions on this list.

Also, Vaults of Zin https://vaultsofzin.bandcamp.com/ and Zon https://znmusic.bandcamp.com/album/mount-gaash have intrigued me on the kraut-metal end of things. I'm not sure they are worthy for inclusion on your list but you might enjoy these albums.

Heard it. Quiet a fun album, indeed. To me, it sounds like Darkspace on slow motion with more "happy" keys. Pretty addictive! Favorite track: Oscura Noche de Saturno.

You should be adding all those recs to this list. Scrolling back through the shoutbox gets pretty tedious

It is absolutely one of the best BM albums this year. Did not expect it to be that good personally tbh.

Its very direct so at the moment I love it. I hope it doesnt fade to fast.

I've heard that before. Not sure if I was very impressed, but I'm not the biggest fan of PE to start with.

Heard it twice already. It was good but not even in the top 5 best black metals this year for me. It might be that I tried it with shitty earbuds, though.

Agreed, it's a good album, but to be honest I'm not sure why people are making such a huge deal over it. It pales in comparison to Skaphe, Almyrkvi, Blut Aus Nord, etc

Ustalost blows Almyrkvi and Blut Aus Nord out the water for me. Almyrkvi is just a bit repetitive, and the BaN split is flat out just not a good record. Ustalost is an amazing sounding, bass-tastic songwriting triumph.

I do have a soft spot for bass-heavy BM. Ustalost just lacked a bit of depth to me, but I admit that my earbuds are not good for listening to that sort of bm.
Would not really call Almyrkvi repetitive. It was nice and balanced. BaN split was not mind blowing. I liked BaN's track, but somehow did not listen to it again after the initial online release. The other side was simply shit.
All in all, I guess it had been a good year BM-wise, considering that we have had great releases within the genre with totally different approaches and sounds.

Loving that Onefnt demo.
