System Of A Down - Drummer Confirms Work On New Album

After announcing a European tour, there are now reports that System Of A Down are indeed working on a new album, which will be their first since Mezmerize and Hypnotize, both released in 2005. In a new interview with Kerrang!, drummer John Dolmayan revealed that the band has so far written fifteen songs during the last six months or so.

He stated: "We've been working on a new album for the last six months and there's about 15 songs that I think are album-worthy."

"I want everyone on board and feeling good about it, that's what we're trying to accomplish right now. There's a tremendous amount of pressure on us, though, because it's been 11 years - at least 12 by the time it comes out. Our playing ability is better than it ever has been and we're trying new things. We're not trying to make Toxicity Part II, just because it was by far our biggest album. This needs to be something for a new generation of SOAD fans, so everyone can see we're not resting on our laurels."

Frontman Serj Tankian isn't quite on the same page as everyone else however, as he recently told L.A. Weekly: "We're going to get together and see if that's going to be System music or not. And who the fuck knows? If it is, great, and if it's not, then great."

"We're not trying to make Toxicity Part II..." Damnit, I was just hoping the exact opposite before I opened this news.

Why is Serj Tankian raining on their parade though? Maybe he still wants to keep the suspense.

Honestly, I haven't been a big fan of Serj Tankian's solo work, but Scars On Broadway are amazing. So I still have high hopes that this album won't be mediocre. Also, I wonder, If System Of A Down releases a new album before Tool does.

This could turn out either way. They've been doing their (mediocre, imo) side stuff for so long that it's impossible to tell, but hey, I hope your stepson doesn't eat the fish.
