Seeing as 10,000 Days was just released (and I'm a new tool fan, myself) it would be interesting to see what people think. Myself? I think it's a masterpiece. I don't think any of their albums are weak anywhere and this one carries on an already impressive discography. But otherwise, the band itself? Interesting music, unique, and the music videos are fascinating.

Personally I enjoy the new album, theres a couple of songs that stick out as true winners on it, but i have no complaints ragarding the rest. Though I don't think there's any of there CD i did not like (off the top of my head).

Seeing them live is truely legendary, the show and stage presence they provide is hard to put into words, and is just a concert you have to see for teh awesome display. I ahd the priviliege of seeing them play and its a show I'll never forget.

This one is a band that i consider is different, their music does not sound like anyone else's music, they do lots of weird stuffs in their albums but their songs are too deep, after listen to each album i got breathless because songs get stuck in my mind, i admire their originality, a great band without a doubt!
Songs like: Schism, Lateralus and Reflection are the ones that don't let you sleep when they reach your brain!

Lateralus is one of the best records ever created in my opinion. Its so good that I get late for work everytime I put it on, cause of the fact that I cant get myself to press stop. Im not even kidding.

Wow, when you're high they're such a great listen!!
the lyrics/music truly does expand my consciousness and pries open the "third eye" ......they have a song with that title too lol.
Sooo thought provoking!! It's harder to get into while sober though (they have a song with that title too LOL!)

I still haven't heard the latest yet, but I like "Lateralus" the best.
Oh and their videos! so artsy and also great to watch after some good weed.

I have a question. I'm not a fan of the band, but that's just because I haven't heard a lot of their music. I do have some albums in my computer [Aenima and Undertow] and they are actually really good.

Anyway... The question is quite simple jejeje. There was a girl I know who said that Tool is the same thing than NIN. I had that "wtf-face" all the time. Because they do not sound the same or do they?
I think is a totally different music of course.

That's true. Nine Inch Nails IS totally different. You can't compare Tool and NIN.
Unless you just want to make clear which of the two bands you prefer, I think they're both very good.

Yes they are totaly different, but there are these abstract and progressive elements in both bands, but there is a this sideproject from Trent Reznor called "Tapeworm" whitch also features Tool's Maynard James Keenan.

Lol... that was actually the main reason to why I asked. I was wondering if there was a side proyect between both bands.
Anyway, like you said some elements are in both bands but it's still a different kind of music.

I can't see anything especially common between two bands either. Sometimes you find some similarities between them but that's not enough to say they're like each other. One is Alternative Metal and the other is Industrial Metal.
Reznor and Keenan are close friends, then Tool and Nine Inch Nails have many tours together.. By the way Keenan and Tori Amos are close friends also, but that doesn't mean Amos' music is similar to Tool's.

Yeah. That's why I wanted to ask. I'm not experienced in both bands so I was wondering if people who know the bands would think they are similar. And it went out like I thought it would...

Yes, they have abstract stuff... a lot. But IMO unlike NIN, Tool is an amazing band. You can't get bored listening to them.

Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities ? the political, the religious, the educational authorities ? who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing ? forming in our minds ? their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable open-mindedness, chaotic, confused vulnerability to inform yourself.

Umm... its called A Perfect Circle. Maynard + Billy Howerdel who was a guitar tech for both NIN and Tool got together with NIN members like Josh Freeze (thats not how you spell his last name) Jeordie White and Danny Lohner. Why APC does not have a thread on this page I do not know; they may not be that heavy but they are dark as any other band on this site, and if Faith No More and Alice in Chains made it on, then surely APC deserve a page as well. Especially with the number of people who rate them in their fav bands list.

If you like APC, then check out Ashes Divide - its Billy Howerdel's project. Its quite good.

Tool are amazing. Seen them live, one of the best shows I've witnesssed (ousted by Meshuggah. Sorry. Don't fight it). Didn't lisen to them for a while and am getting back into them now and it is fantastic to be alive. Fav songs - Forty Six & 2, The Grudge, Opiate, 10,000 Days. That'll turn completely around in a few days because tool are like that. So many amazing songs.

Yeah Danny Lohner is Renholder, just an FYI. I personally think that 10,000 Days is awesome, but it doesn't even come close to the glory that is Lateralus.

Tool influenced, but dirtier, with their own direction. Vocalist kinda similar, many more guitar sounds, more of an industrial feel to it.
