The long-awaited and highly anticipated release of the 18th Judas Priest full-length album comes in the shadow of the sad discovery regarding Glenn Tipton's health condition. This is the bad news. The good news is that Firepower is a very successful attempt by the Metal Gods to revisit their past decades of glory with a modern sound.

I must say, the album cover is really 80s. I like it very much.

Everything about this album is an improvement over Redeemer (which I loved, btw!) Production is miles better. Rob's higher register sounds better. Music sounds tighter.

If this turns out to be the final Priest album, there is no doubt they are gong out on top. 10/10

Positively surprised. Rob seems to have regained a lot of power in his voice over the last few years, if you told me that was a vocal performance from the 80s I'd probably believe it. The songwriting is much more interesting than anything they've delivered in a long time, especially when it comes to the amazing guitar-work. It's not nearly as monotonous as I expected based on their last studio release, though they could have mixed up the types of songs a bit more. Really cool album throughout. I didn't think I'd ever be so enthusiastic about a Priest album again.

Pretty good album in the vein of RoS, although for now I slightly prefer the latter as it seems to me it has more variety.

One classic cover
One shitty song ('Flame Thrower')
One genius intro to the song ('Guardians')
One very badass song which gives me chills everytime I hear it ('No Surrender')
One legendary band which defined heavy metal music.

My rating: 9,5/10

It's a shame it doesn't have less songs, I skip Flame Thrower every time. Either way, this was unexpected for me, a very good album.

I echo this, It's a bit long (Could have lost Flame Thrower)

It's a great album though.

Even more so if you consider this could be Glenn Tipton's last record

Im with you guys, definitely feels like it has some filler songs. If they would have not included them the album could've been a killer.

Its a quite good record with catchy tunes. The production and the music feels tighter than their most recent release.

Pleasantly surprised! In fact, quite pleased. "Firepower", "Never The Heroes", and "No Surrender", are my favorite songs on here.

Perhaps Judas Priest's first real contender for MS Awards Heavy/ Melodic Album of the Year since 2005.

I agree. But then again, even if Rob farts on the mic it would still be a contender for Heavy/ Melodic Album of the Year. This band is so above everything else in the genre.

I know what you mean. I was trying to say that, unlike in recent years, this album I think honestly does merit a nomination based on empirical quality and not just based on the name of the band.

So i listened to the singles and thought ...hmm this is not bad..in fact quite good. but the album is well beyond what i would have excepted ..and tho think that these guys are well into their 60's???
i really like it a lot..! everyone is going on about No Surrender....i dont know... reminds me of aerosmith...(sic!)...good for a gig i guess...and seems like at least a minute got lost somehow..
on the other hand calling flame thrower a shitty song seems like a bit of exaggeration...this one is way more heavy than the poppy like no surrender...its also way more complex...one that really stands out to me so far is traitor's gate....there are some fucking good riffs there...Rob's singing is something different ..great comeback..! i and the drummer's connection with guitars....this is becoming one of the best song of JP ...it's weird..i cant stop thinking of early albums of iced earth when listening to this track,,there is something in the way the sound of the guitars flows with the percussion that reminds of them...this album kicks ass !!! its pretty cool the way there is a thrashy overkill like evil never dies..kreator like necromancer...then this pop saluting no surrender..lone wolf is reminiscent of pantera .....then these guitars on traitor's gate that have this iced earth kind of feeling ...sea of red is another manifestation of Rob's amazing form...it's hard to believe his is 67 ..
throughout this album again and again he proves he is one of the best metal vocalists that ever blessed us with their singing....i dont see any fillers on this album...it's really diverse and covers several genres with subtle tribute like sounds...this seems also to be a direct statement confirming that Judas Priest always looked to reinvent their sound....julogator is one of the examples...this is basically a death metal album ...i have been listening to this album the whole evening and its growing on me all the time....a release of 2018 so far and it will be a very strong contender for the best album of the year.
one thing though....2.49 -2.55 on rising from ruins...Robs voice sounds utterly shit in this little part...wtf ??!!!

Good album, some of JP's best production and rhythm guitar parts. Rob sounds very good. The solos, speed and aggression are not up to peak JP, but who could expect that from a band this old. Actually, I don't recall a single memorable solo here. I didn't realize how much I listened to JP for the solos as opposed to the rhythm guitars unlike most metal. I guess when they are gone you notice it more. Almost feels like a good Halford solo project at times. He is clearly JP at this point.

Decent album. Most songs live up to he name Judas Priest, although I cannot shake the feeling that most of them are somewhat generic. Still, the production alone and Halford's good vocal performance (in contrast with his performance in RoS) somewhat compensates. 8.6-8.7 as an average for this album is nonsense, and only suggest an insane hype. Come on guys, this album is good, but nowhere near Screaming for Vengeance or Defenders of the Faith.

Absolutely amazing album. The most creative and fun Judas Priest has been in decades. Not a bad song on the album, lots of quality material. Only the ordering of songs seem a bit off.

Good production but generic riffing with bad solos. Quality of this album is nowhere near sad wings of destiny, stained class, screaming for vengeance or defenders of the faith. Similar rating (8.7 now) for this album is heresy.

Bad solos? Have we listened to the same album? I agree about Sad Wings and Stained Class, but it's a hell of a lot less generic than anything they put out in the 80s.
