The long-awaited and highly anticipated release of the 18th Judas Priest full-length album comes in the shadow of the sad discovery regarding Glenn Tipton's health condition. This is the bad news. The good news is that Firepower is a very successful attempt by the Metal Gods to revisit their past decades of glory with a modern sound.

Bad solos? Have we listened to the same album? I agree about Sad Wings and Stained Class, but it's a hell of a lot less generic than anything they put out in the 80s.

They were not generic for those times.

True.

Firepower is much more generic than any of their 80s albums. It's very very generic. But I still like it a lot.

So far, I'm enjoying this album a lot more than the previous record. I was worried on the last album that Rob Halford was starting to lose his vocal abilities since he sounded pretty tired in my opinion and didn't employ as many high notes. However he sounds absolutely revitalized on this album! I find it pretty incredible that he's still able to put in this type of performance when he's just a few years shy of turning 70; they really don't call him a metal god for nothing! The production is also much better and easier on the ears, not to mention the musicianship being tighter as well. Some highlights for me so far are the title track, Evil Never Dies, Never The Heroes, Guardians/Rising From Ruins, Traitors Gate, No Surrender and Sea of Red.

Decent album to say the least. for me Nostradamus is the peak of their glory. Redeemer was weak as hell and Firepower is kinda like what is Repentless to Slayer. A decent album for metalheads a perfect album only for the Judas Priest die hard fans

Not a fan of Judas Priest (purely because I never got around to listen to them except for the "hits"), but this album kicks ass, and certainly the ass of a lot of younger bands.

Really like this record. Listened to it twice today. Production wise... well it's good (a lot better than Redeemer) but it feels a bit generic (like you have heard that style of production many times before). I also feel like some of the songs could have been left out.

Like I said, I really like it overall. Some of the songs could have been on their 80's albums, others feel a bit too generic to really convince me. Also, I feel like the general score at the moment might be a bit too high... I mean come on... it's not as good as Stained Class or Sad Wings Of Destiny (at least not imo).

The thing is Sad Wings and Stained Class are rated too low. They both should be atleast 8.8.

Still though if you look at the general score of this one compared to the others, it's too high. I actually agree both Sad Wings and Stained Class are around 8.8/10 for me. But 8.6 for this one while the others are around 8.7 and 8.6 seems a bit too much then imo.

Both Sad Wings and Stained Class are 10s, especially the latter. Considering when they came out, they are 11s. The 8.6 or 8.7 rating for Firepower is pretty accurate and well-deserved.

I like it. Ironically, Flame Thrower is one of my favourite songs. Definitely a much better album than Redeemer Of Souls, both in production and just musically way more interesting. Also an epic performance considering their age.

it would be better for Judas Priest to finish in style rather than to release a bullshit like Redemption. And they are old though.
Well not older than rolling stones. I quit listening to those boneheads 10 years ago. Same thing in scorpions case.

You could have said the same thing after Nostradamus, and yet they managed to release RoS and Firepower afterwards. If there's a chance for them to release one more album like Firepower, I take the risk to get an average release. Even if this happens, that will not lessen in any way their huge legacy on Metal.
