With ten full-lengths under their belt, all more or less acclaimed within the extreme metal community, Behemoth have nothing to prove to anyone. Throughout the band's long career any experimentation and progress from album to album was somewhat restrained and given in small, manageable doses. As a result the fans never really felt "alienated" or "betrayed". With their eleventh opus, I Loved You At Your Darkest or ILYAYD for short, Behemoth have come up with what is bound to be their most divisive release ever.

The art's nice, but it kinda looks like a painter just put too much grey paint on the ceiling and seriously regrets it.

Can't wait. If it's anywhere near The Satanist I'll be very happy.

Yeah, but what script or language is it written in?

It's just a fancy font, that's all. The abbreviation of the title written in capital letters that are split along the middle.

Really weak offering, not that I had high expectations, but this is a new low for these guys.

Really boring, lacking massive in songwriting and weird crisp clean production. Even "The Satanist" with all the filler had more variety than this

In other words, what Behemoth have basically been doing from Demigod onward

Well, I don't know what you think about "The Apostasy" or "Evangelion" but I think they were the last good ones.

The first is a lot more death metall than most of their albums (really good one at that) and the production were a lot different than Demigod, which was, in my opinion, really dull.

Evangelion was a lot different from Apostasy, both production and songwriting wise. Production was cleaner (but not taking too much from the music) and the songwriting had more things happening (whether it's good or not, it's subjective really) but to me a lot more inspired than these latest two

I massively prefer black metal Behemoth, and specifically their "middle period" (so let's say Satanica - Zos Kia Cultus) to what they're doing now. Demigod is good but forgettable, and a bit too derivative of Nile and Vader in my book. Everything they've done since that album has been pretty meh to me, not horrible, just nothing too mindblowing

This is surprisingly good, better than Satanist for sure. Varied, new, refined ideas, Nergal trying something new and daring. This is the Behemoth that I wanted.

After first full listen, I'm disappointed. Strongest songs for me were Bartzabel, Ecclesia Diabolica Catholica, Havohej Pantocrator, and God=Dog. The rest sounded very similar to each other, or to previous Behemoth songs and very boring. I really wanted to love this album, the art is awesome, and the singles were good build-up I felt. Maybe it'll grow on me

The Satanist introduced a change in Behemoth's sound. This album seems like a logical continuation. And it sounds quite good after 2 listens.

I hope he releases a lot more albums with a lot more ideas. He's not satisfied with rehashing his old albums, kudois to him. As is always the case with such famous bands, there will be many who will frown upon Behemoth's evolution. They have every right do to it. But I'd rather listen to an album that's adventurous, even if slightly weaker than their older output, than to be served another Demigod/Zos/Apostasy. Those albums were fantastic, but now Behemoth is somewhere else. Nergal's other band, Me and That Man also is a clear indication that my namesake isn't interested in playing the same shit over and over, he keeps looking for creative ways to realize his talent.

After 5-6 listens, I think that ILYaYD is very good. The Satanist was better, but this one's quality is also very high. I can't wait to see what else Nergal comes up with in the future.
