Rage was my absolute favorite band for a long time. I think that was seven years ago or something. But its still a band i really like.
I discovered them with the "Black In Mind"-album, which is still my favorite one. The other four albums I own are also good ones.

Definitely one of my top 5 bands.
Black in Mind, Ghosts, Soundchaser
masterpiece after masterpiece..
their early speed metal was a bit raw, but nowadays they're the biggest melodic metal force from the old ones that are still alive..

These guys are great, had a few line up changes but thats too be expected.Viktor Smolski is a god,and who could forget Peavy Wagner on the mic and bass. I like the album Perfect Man because it has my favorite song by them "Dont Fear the Winter". These guys have influenced power metal in so many ways. Its such a shame they dont get the respect they deserve.

Rage is one of those extremely talented bands who lives in the shadow for some unknown reason, just like "Virgin Steele", "Jag Panzer" or "Running Wild" to name a few.

Yeah, awesome band. "Soundchaser" is really brilliant, especially the song "Great Old Ones". They are IMO the best Speed / Power Metal band. All of the members are very talented, but it's too bad that Mike has left the band.. I'd love to see them live though.

Rage are bloody awesome. Became one of my instant favourites after the first time I heard Black In Mind. It's one hell of an album. Pete Wagner is such a great musician. Soundchaser was a very good album also, and Speak Of The Dead was one of my favourite albums of 2006. Even their Avenger days were very good. They are just an amazing band, enough said.

I don't know for Zagreb but I've been in Zadar few years ago and they also cancel the gig, I spend lot of money to come to Croatia and watch them, but at least I watched Amon Amarth then
I like Rage, I like their songs, I like their style, I like them... Avenger is cool to. They work for so many years and it is real shame they are not popular like some idiotic bands... They deserve it...
...And I hate when I ask someone: Do you like Rage and that person ask, oh yes I like Rage Against The Machine... ARGH!!!

Soliloquy

i've shunned this band for a while, as i thought when people said 'rage' they meant 'rage againt the machine' a band that i'm not too fond of. but them it got me thicking...most of those people who listen to rage against the machine, dont really like metal...so why would metalheads be recomending me rage againt the machine?

so i gave em a try, and i'm really enjoying them! i'm just youtubing them, and finding random things and enjoying every bit of it

they kinda remind me of pentera, which is really cool.

haha, that 'no regrets' song has a fun lil riff in the begining

anyways, what would you guys recommend?

.......Speaking of Extended Power, Bottlefield is great with really funny lyric:

"We are going to attack
Another barrel's cracked tonight
On the banner beer and booze
We rape the bottles on the loose (oh yeah)

Smoke and laughter all around
Drunken bodies on the ground

But if they try to get up
The alcohol will tear them down"

Rage are a great band, definitely one of my faves!

The first two albums were very generic to me. And they were definitely a 2nd/3rd tier metal act until they put out the awesome ''Perfect Man'' album. From that album on, they've been more or less a class act throughout their career. No matter what they seem to try their hand at, be it thrash/speed metal, huge rocking anthems, symphonic type metal, general power metal, or whatever other style they've attempted, they always pull it off masterfully. A highly underrated band that deserve way more credit than they get. I kinda wish Mike Terrana was still in the band though, he is a monster drummer!

Well said - and particularly refreshing to read from a fellow Brit, as Rage doesn't seem to be overly well known in this country (well, if I mention that I like 'Rage', people almost always automatically think of 'Rage Against the Machine' instead... : )

Rage certainly came into their own with 'Perfect Man' and then built on their sound ever since. They have relatively experimental moments, but generally keep things interesting. Peavy is one of my favourite melodic Metal vocalists, particularly in his mid-range style.

Yep, I can see that most people in this country would think RATM if you mentioned liking 'Rage'. lol

Well, with the first two albums, they just sounded like another 10 a penny metal act. With 'Perfect Man', they really started writing memorable songs, and that is something that they've continued to do ever since. What I love about Peavy is he isn't really an atypical melodic metal vocalist, In that his voice is very masculine, and gruff. And the older he's got, the more gravelly his voice has become. And it's definitely unique, and is one of the things that helps Rage stand out from the crowd.

As a fellow Rage fan, you are probably aware of the imminent release of their new album 'Strings To A Web'. I can't wait to hear it, and it wont surprise me if it's quite a bit different from the last album!

I'm certainly looking forward to it too, and I completely agree with your thoughts concerning Peavy's vocal style. The higher, shriekier range from their really early days sometimes seemed a bit forced at times, though he has always had a good sense of melody. But as he's matured as a singer over the years, he seems much more comfortable with the mid-range approach he's perfected since then. It's kind of 'gruff and gravelly' as you say, and he comes up with some great vocal melodies that stick in your mind.

Yep, he didn't seem naturally a high range singer. Whenever he sang like that, it did seem a bit forced. He has a great sense of melody, even with his gruffer voice, he can use it very well in a melodic way. I also think he's a pretty good bass player!

You what? I said they were 'one of'?

My profile wasnt empty to start with, I did put a list of fave bands when I first joined. But then I tried to edit it, which removed the list entirely, so I just left it empty. But yep, I think I have too many bands that I love to fit into the list thats allowed here!

They are a great band, really. Its hard to recommend an album for you to start with though, as they havent really stuck to the same style over the years hehe

Have now heard 'Strings To A Web'. It's closest musically to 'Carved In Stone', though it's harder than that album was for the most part. Although the 'Empty Hollow' suite is reminiscent of their more experimental albums, and the first half of the 'Speak Of The Dead' album. It's not Rage's best work, definitely. But I think any Rage fan will like it.

Ah, interesting. Carved in Stone was a solid album - not spectacular, but a strong Metal album - so something like that, yet 'harder', seems a very promising prospect. Their orchestral/symphonic stuff can be very good, but generally I tend to prefer their more straight-ahead Metal approach.
