Being they are both the originators of Black Metal,I thought it would be interesting to see who you prefer?I myself prefer Kronos for vocals, though King Diamond is a talented vocalist his voice can be somewhat irritating to me on such high notes.Musically I think it goes too Mercyful Fate, especially on Dont Break The Oath their best album,I just enjoy more albums by venom:"Welcome To Hell","Black Metal" and "At War With Satan".So I think my vote goes to Venom, because their music is more fun too listen too,not so serious in other words.

Mercyful Fate may be way better musicians than Venom, but I listened to Venom before I knew who MF was and I just like their style more. So I go with Venom.

Mercyful Fate because no one can touch Nuns, Melissa and the Oath! That said, classic Venom is genius too.

Mercyful Fate by a long shot. First, they actually play their instruments and write a song. Second, they actually played heavy metal, rather than so abominable mix of hardcore punk and hard rock that was trying to be passed off as metal. Finally, King Diamond can actually sing, Kronos could only do a crude impersonation of Lemmy.

What kind of comparison is that? Of course Mercyful Fate. I've heard all 80s Venom albums and out of the bunch there wasnt a single decent thing to find, except for some songs (buried alive, black metal).

Good songs like At War With Satan and, um. At war With Satan was good.

For me its Buried Alive. Its basically the only thing I listen from Venom anymore. But that song is pretty dope.

The only song I like from before At War with Satan is Countess Bathory.

Difficult, different. Both on top of their game in their own genre. Don't Break The Oath was the first I heard. I think they were equally important in the evolution of metal.
