Mercyful Fate by a long shot. First, they actually play their instruments and write a song. Second, they actually played heavy metal, rather than so abominable mix of hardcore punk and hard rock that was trying to be passed off as metal. Finally, King Diamond can actually sing, Kronos could only do a crude impersonation of Lemmy.

Difficult, different. Both on top of their game in their own genre. Don't Break The Oath was the first I heard. I think they were equally important in the evolution of metal.

Of course Mercyful Fate. I've heard all 80s Venom albums and out of the bunch there wasnt a single decent thing to find, except for some songs (buried alive, black metal).
