Well, i'm maybe idiot on this but, i want to know what is the Stoner sub-genre of metal.. i've seen for many times the bands listed here on metalstorm, and i always believed that Queens Of The Stone Age, was a rock band, but i found them here... so.. i want to know, what's makes them metal, and what is Stoner Metal...

How long is their S/T 7"? I believe M-A doesn't say, and that's why I didn't check it out. I didn't want to waste my time on something that was only 15 minutes long, but I seriously doubt it's shorter than half an hour

IMHO it's the worst sub-genre of metal. Never heard anything good from a Stoner Metal band.

What stoner bands have you heard? Do you like Master of Reality and Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath? What about Kyuss, Electric Wizard, or Acid King?

I've heard QOTSA, Orange Goblin, Electric Wizard (live), Spiritual Beggers and haven't liked any of them. I've not heard Master Of Reality but I've heard Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath, what makes you mention those two songs?

I think it is about 15 minutes max. Remember it IS a 7" But I think it is sold out stiff everywhere. Of course you could always try the label that released it http://nuclearwinter.cjb.net/
I'll get back on the exact duration later today after I played the 7" and cocked it at home

UR is still available both on cd and vinyl from the label that released the cd (Psychedoomelic)

Not songs, but albums

I'm not big on Orange Goblin or Spiritual Beggars, and QOTSA is more stoner rock than metal. Listen to those two Black Sabbath albums, III by Acid King, and Come My Fanatics and Dopethrone by Electric Wizard and I'm sure you'll gain more appreciation for stoner metal.

Ah righty.

Yeah, maybe I'll give it another chance. Maybe it would be a better idea to actually smoke some weed while I listen to it if the name of the genre is anything to go by lol

Btw Astrosoniq and Gomer Pyle last Friday were awesome live. The sotner was enhanced a lot by the visuals in the background (courtesy of Roadburn's Walter, who also did the DJing before, after and in between the gigs)

I've been listening to Witch (USA) the last couple of days and I'm really getting into them. They sound just like Acid King, but with a male vocalist.

Yeah I know they're traditional doom or whatever, but I kinda lump stoner, sludge, and trad doom together sometimes. I made it while being really fucked up, so I should probably take another look at my list hahaa

Anyways, I was going to post these videos:

riffs
RIFFS

I used to watch these videos multiple times a shift at work last Summer, and found out about some great stuff from those videos alone. I ended up buying a handful of those albums, and was reminded of stuff that I already had. But man, if you're someone who is trying to get into this genre, check those out.

Nice links. Only surprising thing is that there was only one Monster Magnet included.

Great links, It seems like my list of cds to buy just got 3 times bigger. Although I think the Boris riff wasn't that good, they could have used one from Heavy Rocks, now that's some good stoner from those guys.

It's hard to tell the difference between some Stoner bands and some who are traditional Doom. At least I have it difficult to not see Reino Ermitaño as stoner...
Edit: And I'm listening to their myspace and I can't fucking wait to get a little more money and buy two of their albums, her voice is incredible.... "Quieeeero ver tu sangre correeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer!"*

* = I want to see your blood run... I really want to have sex with that voice.
Although I'm very sure that I'm offtopic since they are more traditional doom but I astill get a "High" vibe if you know what I mean.

I thought I'd throw everyone a recommendation. I was just listening to The Gates of Slumber's radio channel on Last.fm and Black Pyramid played and I liked them so I checked them out. They play a very recognizable Stoner Doom but its really quite good from what I've heard. Not to mention their song titles and lyrics appeal to me. Their self-titled debut was released just last year and they have plenty of songs up on their myspace. Check them out.

I just wanted to post them here^^ Glad you did, they are an awesome band!

Another awesome I got recommended recently are Horisont from Sweden.
They sound somewhat stoner but with a 70s/80s edge I really love. Well. see yourselves

Actually a pretty mediocre band if you ask me. Saw them at Roadburn and it was more like NWOBHM than stoner anyway and the vocalist couldn't hold his notes though he tried to sing even higher than Michael Sweet of Stryper.

oh, I never saw them live. That's a shame though... :/
But this NWOBHM and Stoner mixture is what I like! And it has a kind of nice mood to it, that also appeals to me.

I listened to Black Pyramids a few months ago and didn't find anything "ah" about them. To me most of the time they sounded like Black Sabbath copycats (and sometimes Iron Maiden ). Then after Clint W.'s post I decided to listen to them again, and my opinion hasn't changed. Besides occasional catchy leads and riffs, this band doesn't offer anything cool for me.

I understand. That's how Electric Wizard started out and then they found their niche and got better. Hopefully Black Pyramid will flesh out eventually, but I've liked what I've heard. I bet they'd be fun live too.

Out of interest has anyone heard Japanese stoner outfit Eternal Elysium, specifically the record 'Spiritualized D'? They've been around a while but rarely get mentioned anywhere and that record stands as one of my favourite of the genre, a veritable psychedelic riff-monster, far better than even the best Church of Misery album.

Church Of Misery on album are okay to good but nothing more. They should be witnessed to fully appreciate (especially the visuals add a lot to the music and their stage performance is maniacal as well)
