Written by Mr. Doctor on 10.01.2012 at 21:35 I dunno what to tell you dude, that song was hella gay... Damn, I've never listened to that album and this song really doesn't make me feel interested in checking more songs.
The entire album is pretty shitty to be honest... I gave it a 6 at first but I'm thinking a 4 or 5 is more appropriate.

It feels so strange to realize this is the same band that released that which I consider to be one of the best extreme doom albums ever (Dance of December Souls).
I kind of liked the intro to that song but then it just went downhill.

And then of course there's Asking Alexandria... For the record, nobody ever asked Alexandria anything ever again.

Replace DoDS with BMD and I know exactly how you feel.
Their alternative stuff never worked for me, whereas I actually prefer Anathema's post-doom era.

BMD is a close second for me. Day is awesome and Rainroom is my all-time favourite Katatonia song (and one of the most beautiful pieces of contemporary music I've heard, on level with WoD's Somehow, Alcest's Elevation and Slowdive's Spanish Air) but overall I still consider DoDS to be better. It is also a bit more unique, havent heard many albums that sound similiar to it.
I don't know Anathema at all, shame on me, but I plan on checking them out when I am back into doom (I have a way of "rotating" my favourite genres, it is a sort of natural process for me and at the moment I am not listening to much doom).

My honest advice would be to ignore most of their work in the 2000s and work backwards from 1999.
If you're feeling more adventurous, their first two 2000s releases are somewhat enjoyable, but inconsistent.

What is wrong with you peeps, NItND is an excellent album. You'd have to dig back all the way to Discouraged Ones to find a better Katatonia release.

I agree. NitND is not bad at all, it just has some boring moments but some of the songs are great including the "gay" track above

I was quite disappointed with NitND at first but it really grew on me over time, but it seems i'm one of the few who loves both old Katatonia and new Katatonia.

It used to be Alcest, Lifelover, The Great Distance, but that last one has changed into NitND even though TGD isn't much better

I say the same for your favorite non-doom era Katatonia album, i.e. Viva Emptiness.
Now that we've established our tastes differ, there is only one thing we can do about it: fight to death.

You have certainly changed your opinion on Katatonia since 10.11.2009
Remember you [posted this in the comments on the review of The Great Cold Distance?
Written by Slayer666 on 10.11.2009 at 23:56
Yeap, exactly. Katatonia died for me after "Tonight's Decision". Their early stuff beats the shit out of 95% of the Doom Metal bands, but this new emo/goth (not litteraly) sound is just.... Shallow and pointless.

Haha, yeah, I changed my opinion on a lot of things since then, Katatonia included.
Well, the part about their early stuff beating the shit out of 95% doom still stands, but the later Katatonia grew on me a lot since then. Minus Viva, that is. And I'm still not too thrilled about The Great Cold Distance as a whole, but it does have some outstanding tracks ("Deliberation" immediately comes to mind).

Which I find weird cause NitND is soooo much like that one that they could have been conceived at the same recording session.

Like "The Great Cold Distance" light version.

Something like that, even though TGCD was already extremely light

Yeah at certain moments it feels a lot like TGCD but TGCD although being light still has imo some of the heavy qualities found in Viva Emptiness

I'll politely disagree with the above statements and get back to listening "Liberation" and "Nephilim" from NiTND.
Those two grew on me more than ever.

I'm not saying it's bad, it's just very similar to TGCD and is definitely lighter

Their new album Dead End Kings is just awesome. I also love the two bonus tracks "Second" and "The Act of Darkening".
