Now that Ivan has added this amazing new feature in the site, tell us, what kind of albums do you add and do you think that other people should add too.

P.S.: People with cassettes can consider them as albums too, either original or copied!

Off topic continued - i could spend a huge chunk, but when i do buy cd's i prefer not to get mroe than a couple per week, simply so i can give each an adequate number of listens. additionally, with a collection of around 600-650* (i don't have nearly all of my non-metal cd's listed) it's not like i have the ability to listen to them all on a regular basis. buying fewer just means i give the ones i have more listens.

topic focus - collections should strictly be limited to purchased and possessed cd's, lp's, tapes, 8 tracks, what-have-you, and LEGALLY downloaded music. there are those bands who either give it away free online, or sell at concerts cheap downloads (via cards/numbers) - and since those are band/label approved, they should count.

* my collection would probably be around the 1,000 mark if it included all the cd's/tapes i've ever owned. i have sold hundreds back for store credit to get new ones through the years.

Answering to the question, I only consider my original CD's (or vinyl) as collection items.
I consider any burn CD's that I have as a temporary thing, only until I manage to get the originals. So, they don't count.

I voted ONLY originals but that's a lie. I've got 6 CDR's but I don't count them in my collection so it's not a big lie.
If I can't have the real deal, there is no deal!
It is even a shame that I have to buy CD's. I listened to vinyl a lot but I haven't got the time to sit in my musicroom alone and listen to records

Now when we say "downloaded" are we talking legal or illegal? I have bought many albums off of iTunes, so that is not illegal, but it is downloaded.

I only place albums that I own, orgional, undownloaded, and unburned. I actually haven't put what I own on Vynal on here (which isn't much, tbh.) and I also haven't put ALL of my CD's on here. That could take a while....

I only put up original CDs. I also put some bootlegs up that I have, but I leave those with a note or something to tell them apart.

Thats a good question. Because I own a few albums that the band has placed for download for free, then offered the liner notes and whatnot to print off and pretty much make your own copy (ie Hail Of Bullets' first demo, STREETS Invaders From Gnars...etc). Personally I add them....

I have mainly original CD's in my collection, but I also have some burned CD's in between, like 20 or so.

These are CD's I downloaded and liked so much, I burned them on a CD. I don't really consider them a part of my entire collection, but more like CD's I can listen to while waiting to find the orginal CD and replace them.

This is a rather tricky problem for me, as my CD collection was stolen and I have only bought about 50-100 CD's since. It wasn't a real heart breaker to me, as all of my CD's are backed up on my FTP (I have well over 1,000 CD's). In case you are wondering, I always back my CD's up and then archive them in my closet for safe keeping, or I put them in my car to listen to. So would I count my burnt CD's as part of my collection? Yes, considering it is all I have anymore, other than the various CD's that I have bought.

As for putting them on my public collection here, as you see it remains empty, and it will probably stay that way considering that they are not for trade in that fashion. Of course, if anyone wants to discuss that on a more private note...

As far as I know it's not possible to change your vote in the opening poll. Only option is to write a post maybe quoting your first post explaning that you changed your mind.

guitar hero is very annoying nowadays and I dont like to go to metallica's website and see that fuckin thing in every news.

I vote for the first one, but I have to mention that I dont have all of cd's which Ive in my collection and the reason is that its too hard for me to find all of them but I'll buy them when I find them. so I mean that Ive add albums which I 100% will buy or I have their originals.

This is an old thread, but still. I was looking at my collection on here the other day. I used to only buy albums because i had money. However, i now download literally everything (music, dvds, software) because i can and it's easier and cheaper. I simply don't have the free spending money these days. I've done my bit over the years and bought over 350 albums and lots of merchandise. I'm not into music as much as i was. The bands still get their money either way, buying an album mainly contributes to the label (who promote the band of course), but things are changing.

I was considering putting everything i have on my computer (that i listen to) so i can look at the pie charts and breakdown of genres/countries out of curiosity. Not sure if i can be bothered yet.

I only post albums I physically own. I don't download legally, so it would be pointless for me to add the plethora of illegally downloaded content I have sitting on my hard drive. What I don't like is certain people (like Cradle of Bodom for instance - you've probably seen the name in your "neighbors" list) who add every single apparent album known to man. I doubt some of these users even have the storage capacity, let alone the ability to search and spend the time downloading to muster such an expansive collection.

The other way i think about it is this.

Buying albums was the only way to get music at one stage before the Internet really kicked off in domestic households. Then came the stage when you could download from the net, but back then, Walkmans / Discmans (cd players) were still around making the cd hard copy more preferable. However, nowadays, cd players are rarely used and computers / mp3 players own the market for music playback.

My point is, what is the point in buying albums these days. It makes a cool collection sure, i didn't want to stop my collection from growing because i felt it was the right thing to do and it was cool. Now i see it as a waste of money and clutter. Who actually uses the hard copy cd anymore? Or read the booklet when you can just go to www.darklyrics.com? Even if i had the money today, i would not go back. It just makes no sense, and even the music industry knows it. Hell they make a shitload of money either way.
