I disagree with you wholeheartedly. Greene is VASTLY superior vocalwise when comparing him to Max. Greene fits Sepultura loads better. And what I also find a plus is that Greene sounds like an American whereas with Max he had (and still has a funny foreign accent to his vocals.)

I agree with most of your post. I really think that Dante XXI is a damn good "Thrashcore" [or whatever they wanted to do] album... I don't see any filler at all and it's just as long as it has to be.
I haven't heard A-Lex and even though your comment left me quite sad about it [since I really wanted it to be good because of the concept] I will check it out anyway since the songs I've heard from the album were very good. But yeah... I do think it's kinda long.

About the classic stuff, My favorite will always be Schizophrenia and Beneath The Remains being a close second. I just like the rawness of schizophrenia but also that the sognwriting is very good, so it mix the best of two worlds imo: The rawness of the debut and the amazing riffs/overall songwriting for the next two albums.

Sepultura is still one of my most beloved bands... I started to listening to them whenI was 12 with Beneath The Remains and I was just "woooooooooooooow" and the fact that I still got that feeling when I hear those riffs just make it more clear that I will always love their classic era.

Heehee....Sepultura are just one of those bands that I'm very passionate about, I didn't initially intend for my post to be that long, but....

Is "thrashcore" even a real genre?

Well, I guess with so many songs on it there was a risk there'd end up being too much filler, and that is the case with "A-Lex". Don't get me wrong, the album has some superb songs on it! "Moloko Mesto", "We've Lost You", "What I Do", "Forceful Behaviour", (Complete with venemous "Arise" - like riffs!) "Enough Said" and "Paradox" are really great songs, which show the new Seps are capable of memorable, and at times, sonically devestating songs. The orchestral waves in "Ludwig Van" also surprisingly works, and is maybe an indication that they should try and branch out more style wise, to prevent staleness in their sound. The problem with the album, is it collapses under it's own weight, and the filler tracks dilute the effect of the really good songs on the album. But, there's still enough good stuff on "A-Lex" to suggest that if they can become more consistent, then maybe the next album can be something special. Overall, it's not as good as "Dante XXI", but in it's best moments, it definitely holds it's own with that album, and even shows flashes of Sepultura's earlier work, which is no bad thing!

"Schizophrenia" is a very good, at times awesome, album, and some of Seps' best songs is on it. It is definitely worthy of being held in the same esteem as the next two more widely appreciated albums. You can't argue with "R.I.P..." or "From The Past Comes The Storms"!

Yeah I think 54 minutes are quite a lot for the music they are playing atm. If they got rid of 20 minutes of filler then we have a tight thrash album for 34 minutes... It's sad because it has an awesome concept and they did it well with Dante and the Divine Comedy.

And yeah, I really love From the Past Comes the Storms, it's a close second to be my favorite track from that album. My favorite song has to be "To The Wall", I just want to hit jump when the first riff starts or hit someone when Max screams "Fuck off to me, fuck off to all of ya!"

I believe though that the drums were still very standard and only turned awesome with Beneath The Remains, specially with songs like Innes Self or the moments before Max sings "Look at me my feelings turn" on Stronger Than Hate... what a damn beast he was in that album and Arise.

What do you think about their debut? It's not very original but I think it's very good and I was glad that I could get the version with the Bestial Devastation EP, raw but so sweet and effective stuff.

Exactly. If all the excess was cut out, and only the good songs were on the album, it'd have been another great album of the Derrick era. As it is, I see it as a missed opportunity. It is an awesome concept, which I think just adds to my disappointment over the album. It's like even the good tracks can't make up for the feeling that it should have been a lot better. With that said, the good songs on the album individually, are definitely among the best stuff Seps have done with Derrick.

For me, the album is bookended by it's two best songs. "From The Past Comes The Storms" and "R.I.P." are total face melters, and better even some songs from the next two albums!

Well, I know that Igor's drum set for the first album was extremely basic, and that will obviously have effected how the drums sounded. I think the drum sound on "Schizophrenia" is more like the drums of the previous album, then on "Beneath The Remains" or "Arise". I think being signed to a bigger label enabled Igor to get a proper kit for the first time, which I think helped a lot with the quality of the drum sound. "Morbid Visions", I actually think is very underappreciated, and is a great album. It is very raw, and basic. But therein lies it's charm, and some of the songs are completely awesome. Such as the title track, "Show Me The Wrath", of course the classic "Troops Of Doom", and my personal fave "War", which I consider to be a forgotten Seps classic! I think Seps were mainly seen as a death metal band on the back of this album, and the previous EP. And is definitely a fine slab of primitive, early death/thrash.

I actually think Max's lyrics have been dumbed down a lot from "Roots" and continuing with Soulfly. They've gotten a lot more childish, and are all "muthfuka!" and nonsense like that! But, from Remains...through to "Chaos AD", the lyrics were really intelligent, and Max's voice chanelled that beautifully. The good lyrical content in Seps seemed to come back again, with "Against", and indeed, for most of the Derrick Green era.

I also think it's very underappreciated, the raw feeling from the songs are just amazing even though it's not original at all. But who cares about originality when you have catchy & brutal riffs on War, Morbid Visions, Empire of the Damned and Troops of Doom.... The EP has also one track that I really like, Necromancer. That riff kinda groove at the beginning is very nice.

But I have to be honest, I preffer the version of Troops Of Doom that came with the remastered version of Schizophrenia, I think it's more effective. But are very good though, I jsut like the less raw version more than the original.

Finally I could find someone that noticed it!!. I think Sep's Agaisnt and Nation has great lyrics but not so much cool music, I don't like next albums so much either, Max did a lot shit with Soulfly 'till Dark Ages which is badass album musically speakin' but he kept the moronic lyrics, in fact I saw an (Cavalera Conspiracy) interview where he seem to be a "Gringo", when the journalist asked about Brazil and political issues he avoided letting Iggor ansewer for him cause "I don't live there anymore" he said. I think he lost his brazilian identity and his brain to write lyrics cuz he left the Brazil's reality. As south american I miss the good Max Cavalera's lyrics.

Am wondering what Paulo.Jr, and Andreas Kisser still doing in Sepultura.

Anyway you look at it, Sepultura produced some of the best thrash metal of the late 80's/early 90's. Whats also so great about this band is that until Max left and it went to shit, Sepultura did whatever they wanted. You see a great progression in musical style from Schizophrenia (which i had an orgasm listening to Inquisition Symphony) to Roots (which isn't my favorite but is undeniably a very influential album). The best music they produced was definitely found on Beneath the Remains and Arise, as Sepultura was one of very few bands that could play thrash with death metal riffs. If you like industrial leanings, then Chaos A.D. is awesome too. Theres no reason to talk about anything after Max because it is all a crock of shit.

Sepultura with Max is something I deeply enjoy - from Morbid Visions to Roots. I couldn't move on since Max left...and after Igor left too it was like the band moved somewhere else.

Beneath The Remains was easily their best release ever! I'm rocking out to it right now.

I like those four the best. I can't say I've heard the pre-'Beneath' stuff in some time, though. Gonna have to get on that.

And, having seen Sepultura live in the past year or so in support of Kairos (prior to it's release, IIRC) I can say that they still get it done live like they always have. I had the privilege of seeing them several times from '87-'95 with the original lineup and the recent tour, while not as epic as the early days, was still well worth attending and still packed the power, energy, and atmosphere that Sepultura has always delivered in spades.

I saw a list of underrated metal vocalists and (of course) Derrick Green was on it. I haven't realised before that Green actually sings on more Sepultura albums than Cavalera, which the list made me aware of. Anyway, always thought that Green has been one of the most underrated artists in the metal scene. To me he is a better vocalist than Cavalera. Sure there's been a couple of shitty albums but overall I still think it's great stuff. "Dante XXI" is actually my favourite Sepultura album, the drum part in "Dark Wood of Error" is still almost a decade later one of the heaviest moments I've ever experienced during a concert. Overall I agree that the Cavalera albums are a better bunch than the Green albums. But I have never missed Cavalera in Sepultura. Possibly because I was like six years old when he left...

Still one of the best gigs I can think of

Been a Sepultura fan for a while myself. Was first introduced to them around the time Chaos A.D. was released. Been a fan since because that album was just awesome. After Max left, I was originally not a fan of Derrick. But as time as gone on I do really think he is a good vocalist. I have learned to appreciate their music more as I have gotten older. With Max my favorite albums are Arise and Chaos A.D. With Derrick my favorite albums are Nation and Kairos. I have only listened to their new album a handful of times and still need to listen to it a couple of more times to really figure out how I feel about it.

I've been listening to Sepultura since Beneath The Remains. I really like the classic Sepultura line up better than the current one. Green gave it a different perspective to the band; it sounds good, but it sounds like a new Sepultura band; I guess we were very used to the old Sepultura, after all, we long time fans (since the 80s) were hooked up to this band because of their original vibe.
I still listen to the current Sepultura albums, but I cannot help thinking that I'm listening to a new Sepultura; I like it, but as a kinda different band.

Bands drummer Eloy Casagrande, who recently underwent surgery after breaking his right leg in a stage accident, was hospitalized again earlier this week with a kidney infection.

On Friday (April 22), the 31-year-old Brazilian musician took to his Instagram to share a few photos from the hospital in São Paulo, and he included the following message: "Yesterday I was in a physical therapy session and I had a sudden pain in my abdomen. I had to rush to the hospital. I was diagnosed with a kidney infection (pyelonephritis) due to a stone that blocked the Ureter (the tube that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder). I had to go into an emergency surgery to have a 'double J' inserted between the bladder and kidney to unclog the canal. The calculus is still there, but it is necessary to deflate the kidney first and then resolve the stone issue.

SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser has been forced to leave the band's current European tour due to a "family emergency." He is being temporarily replaced on the road by Jean Patton of fellow São Paulo, Brazil-based heavy metal act PROJECT46.

Earlier today (Wednesday, June 22),SEPULTURA released the following statement via social media: "Unfortunately, @andreaskisser has returned home due to a family emergency.
