What are your thoughts on this band?

I can't imagine most of Helloween's songs done acoustically. But at least it will be another chance to hear Kiske's voice again doing Helloween.

Anybody knows which of Helloween singers recorded A Tale That Wasn't Right? Seems like that wasn't Deris...Two are left. Hansen or Kiske?

Helloween... they use to be my favorite band when I was a kid, but now I just can'r recognise them, I will surely not go on their show here because I would rather go to see Shakira. Their last two albums are horrible, and beside them I hate Chameleon and Pink Bubbles... Those albums make me cry. But if Helloween ever make set of old songs from Helloween, Keeper Of The Seven Keys 1&2, Walls Of Jericho... I would sold my soul to watch them.

well they more or less did that with the last tour... they did most songs from 'Keeper...' albums, so there was a load of old songs and some of the new ones from the new 'Keeper...' album that you just must have had to have covered your ears for or something because they are so unbelievably awful and terrible and so not worth listening to.. come on.. i have just read in the Wizard thread that you like their new album. if you like that then i really dont see why you dont like the new Helloween album - other then you are just comparing it to what Helloween used to be..

Helloween, may say they invented Power Metal, if this is true or not, I don't know, but one thing is sure, ther are the big fish in power metal world, their songs are great, they are not so epic as Blnd Guardian, but I think they are better. I think that Kiske voice is better, but Deris voice has a larger vocal range, Kiske wouldn't sang as Deris did in The Dark Ride with that semi-harsh vocals. In my opinion the three Keeper Of The Seven Keys are the best.

I'm listening to Helloween now for the first time in a while, they used to be my favourite band for a while (yes, even more than Blind Guardian, just look at my name!), but they fell out of favour a little bit over the past few months, for various reasons. It's high time they took up their position near the top of my favourite bands list anew!

I'm not that impressed with this band. They have made some really good songs, but they have also made many really bad ones, as do all other bands. I'm not a big fan of any of their vocalist, but in the songs I like the lyrics and music make up for that

Helloween is one of the pioneers of this genre and even if they are not inventors they are into power/speed for a very long time and they are responsible for the power metal explodion, I listen to this band from my childhood and I don't have any complains for hteir aproach to their metal even now. I know their new albums are little weaker but they are stil listenable, they worst album is Pink Bubbles Go Ape and that is the only Helloween album I really can't listen. But that was thought time for them, especially Kai Hansesns departure and Gamma Ray's first album, which was more successful than all 90' and late 80' Helloween albums.

I'm getting the new DVD as soon as I can, their setlist on that is pretty much identical to what it was when I saw them last year, and their antics remain the same too, with the drummer soloing on a tiny guitar, throwing frisbees to the crowd etc etc. Should make for some awesome viewing!

On the DVD : a friend of mine bought it, and during 'Power', the song stops and automatically goes back to the menu page. Anyone else having this problem? On Kiske's new album : uh-oh, looks like it's time to call the waaambulance. Seriously, with every move this man makes I respect him less. He turns his back on the band and genre that made him famous, tries his hand at pop, fails miserably, turns back to metal. Then, when people say that his material sucks (which it very well could), he blames THEM. "No, they don't understand me", "they're just too closed-minded to accept my music", "metal is completely negative". Here's a hint, Kiske - try focusing your energies on creating something worthwhile, instead of pissing all over your reputation and the only genre that cares about you at all.

I prefer the "heavy" era, that decade from 1993 to 2003, some of my favorite albums like "The Dark Ride" or "The Time of the Oath" were released during that time.

Helloween are great band, I mean they were a great band, the new albums aren't too good. I like the power/speed metal era more (Walls of Jericho, Keeper Of The Seven Keys I & II). I haven't heard all of the albums still. I heard Pink Bubbles Go Ape and Master Of The Rings... and they were nothing special. Maybe Time Of The Oath and The Dark Ride will be OK. I don't know about the new album either, but honestly I'm not expecting much of it.

@ Milutin: maybe if you just give them a try, for example by borrowing some albums from a friend, you would like the melo/heavy metal era. You've already mentioned two great albums: "Time Of The Oath" and "The Dark Ride".

Exactly, I love all Helloween's periods. Especially early Helloween (Kai Hansen), but later albums are also very goood. But I already wrote that, only one thing to add to my previous posts. I saw on many forums that people hate The Dark Ride, and I really can't understand why? I mean, it is not the best Helloween album and it is little different, so I can understand someone just don't like it, but to hate album with songs like The Dark Ride, Mr.Torture, If I Could Fly, Mirror Mirror... Time Of The Oath is really, but really great Helloween album, it should be called Keeper... part.3 not last year album. Pink Bubbles Go Ape I really can't listen and that album I consider as pure shit.

I'm in the middle of a huge Helloween phase right now, I haven't been this into them for around a year now! I realised a few days ago, looking through my collection, that I don't actually own any of their albums. Well, at least, I didn't, until this morning, when I went out and bought Walls of Jericho and Keeper I on CD, and Keeper II on vinyl (original pressing too!). It's seriously scary to see how happy I am about all this, I cannot believe I neglected them this much for so long. RIDE THE SKY! RIDE THE SKY! GIVE ME WIIIIIIIINGS TO FLYYYY, RIDE THE SKY! What do you guys all think about the pair of tribute albums that came out a while ago? I personally enjoy them quite a lot, some bands have really done great jobs with it.

04.06.2007 - 13:53 Written by Baz Anderson on 04.06.2007 at 11:37 Rhapsody do 'Guardians', Sonata Arctica do 'I Want Out', Metalium do 'Ride the Sky', Luca Turilli does 'I'm Alive', Vision Divine do 'Eagle Fly Free', Labyrinth do 'Future World', Dark Moor do 'Halloween', Iron Savior do 'Phantoms of Death', Dragonland do 'Sole Survivor' and Axenstar do 'Twilight of the Gods'. I've listed the bigger names there, obviously for it to be a 2-part tribute album there are other bands, but they're pretty obscure, and some of them murder the songs too. It's quite cool to listen to once in a while though.
