It seems in one way or another everyone suffers from some kind of addiction weather its substance related or not.

Unfortunantly some addictions are harder to pass on from than others. Often people who do not experience (or don't admitt to) them are quick to believe that if they force an ''intervention'' on loved ones who are suffering it will ''cure'' them. Sometimes that may be the only way but I belive if someone is to be ''cured'' they have to break those chains themselves.

I'm not saying that it doesnt help to have someone by your side who can see how fucked up you are when you can not. I would just like to hear from others who are on the same road.

For some this may be the only kind of help they need. You don't have to put a name to your addiction when typing and remember it doesnt have to be substance related. Use this to help yourself how ever you can because everyone needs help once in a while.

Sometimes your on the right path and you get lost. Some people more than others. Some people just need a direction to be pointed in while others may need to start at the beginning.

What led you there, where have you been and where are you going?

Zombie, M.D.

Amphetamines. About half a year ago I was prescribed amphetamines because I couldn't focus at work and was always feeling tired. Worst thing to happen in my entire life. They cut my prescription because I was abusing it but its so easy to get, as tons of college age kids are prescribed it, I am having a hard time getting away from it. Its rough going in to work on Monday after having been awake since the Friday prior, seeing shadow people and hearing voices, etc. I guess there were some benefits, my guitar and drum playing has improved at an alarming rate since playing while speeding. I only started playing the drums about 4 months ago and I have already surpassed the friend who is teaching me.

Yikes- amphetamines are too crazy for me. Ruined 10 years of my life. I am in a bad spot now. My older brother has nothing now because of Meth. Homeless...wants to put a trailor at my house. I have not done such drugs in 7 years. What do I do? Let him come, and stay-pissing my husband, neighbors off? I love him, and want him to do better. But he already stayed at my other brothers house & did nothing...plus he has some crazy-ass girlfriend. I don't know what to do...addiction sucks. (As I drink my glass of wine- I feel like a hypocrite...) so complicated...

this sounds all too familiar.

if you want him to do better don't allow him to put a trailor in your yard. yes, he's family, but you'll only be inhibiting the vicious circle that is meth addiction. if he isn't paying rent for using your property, or an apartment, etc., where's the money going to?

if you're a successfully recovered addict than you'll understand what i'm talking about. seriously, it will only get worse if you bend for him. and meth addicts break those that bend.

I have a computer addiction, which I'd prefer to get rid of. Meaning I mostly use my free time to hang around internet, etc.

luckily i don't get addicted as easily as people on this thread i've seen are, and i am thankful for that. the only thing i was addicted to and for almost no other cause just for nothing else to do, was computer games, and only in 'waves' or so: like one week for Red Alert 2, then 4 months later 2 weeks for Civ 3... etc.

i've tried, kinda like everyone: cigarettes, coffee, weed, alcohol and medical pills of course.. but nothing really stuck.

Well, first I'm an internet addict. I have almost all my books online, all my studying material online, MS is there, a lot of my friends live far away and I can only talk to them by e-mail or MSN etc...
I spend a lot of time online, a lot more than your average Jane Doe I think...
So I can easily say I'm an internet addict.

And, be warned, this is going to sound very cheesy, but I am addicted to love, like the song goes ''might as well face it I'm addicted to love''. Why? I dunno, I just love the feeling of being in love and it's very addictive to me.

So yeah, my addictions are the internet and love, and to tell the truth, I don't want any of them ''cured''.

EDIT: also, how could I forget....people reminded me now....I'm also addicted to anything related to art. May it be art, poetry, books, and of course, music. I am definitely addicted to all of this stuff because I absolutely adore it, it just seemed so obvious to me I forgot to mention it.

Oh, that's a good feeling. It's cheering you up and you feel like you're loving whole world as well (okay, it's mostly in the beginning... sooner or later everything will be ruined).

I'm addicted to music. I love to sing and I'm doing this since I was a little kid, but now I'm more concentrating on listening to music. I really can't get out of my home without my headphones put on, sure, it's only when I have to be alone. At home the first thing I do is to turn on some music because here you can't get a real silence (and sometime silence is good) - in the middle of day you'll probably hear some workers on the street, cars passing by and other unneeded things. So I better choose loud music instead.

I would say that I am at least lightly addicted to:

Metal (probably my number one addiction).
Caffeine (if I don't drink coffee I get headaches and shit)
Nicotine (the second most severe, I sure as hell don't think I could quit even if I wanted to)
Alcohol (if I don't drink at least a little regularly, life becomes dull and pointless)
Cannabis (I blaze it up nearly every day, and quite often several times if I have the money, and I get all stressed out and shit if I don't get high for a while)
The Internet (damn all the time I spend in front of the computer, but I just can't keep myself from doing so)
Eating pills (got to get high this time quite often too, don't care much what I take)

time to quote myself, hurrah.

i do realize now that it's an extremely stupid thing to do, to get addicted to games. when you're addicted to drugs at least you might find people who are also into them and socialize a bit, but when you're a Red Alert 2 geek and you're glued to the computer screen sometimes for even 8 hours a day, well, you're pretty much fucked. sure it won't affect your health that much but it still is a horrible thing. it ruins your life on a short term basis worse than any drug i can think of now.
