The sky outside was clear and sunny, it was a beautiful day, and it was opening night for Steel Panther's Europe tour in Helsinki, that they will continue through March. I became fan of the band pretty quickly when I got word that their 2nd album Balls Out was coming out. I knew that it was supposed to be a parody metal band, so I didn't know what to expect there, but as soon I had heard of them I bought 2 albums and a concert ticket.

Queuing in front of the club on the concert day, warm-up band The Treatment (UK) arrived to the club Nosturi in a small van and loaded their cargo inside. There weren't many songs by the band on the internet to listen before, so I kind of blindly went to listen them. The result was quite surprising - they really knew how to warm-up the audience. Their music is hard rock, seems to be inspired by Santa Cruz (Finland), Aerosmith and Guns'n'Roses. Their debut album This Might Hurt is out, but before you listen to the album, go and see them on a concert, because it was much energetic live than on CD.

Next it was time to set-up the stage for Steel Panther. The gig was sold-out for 1000 people in 2 months, which was the only sold out show for the club this season. Around 9pm the band came on stage. It's something you usually expect to see in a big arena, but usually with the club gigs the band has better connection with the audience. They have also created an image based on their absurd lyrics; Satchel, Lexxi, and Michael told taunting and womanizing jokes during the whole show and called girls from the audience to the stage when they were only half-way through the setlist and let them hang out there until the end.

Generally, if you are bored of the usual glam rock and want some alternation and fun in your life then Steel Panther is the one to listen to and see. If you really think that they really mean what they sing, they don't - it's going to be entertainment like with Lordi's show.
