Hello, please can you introduce yourself and your music to the people that may not be familiar with your works.

Hi, I'm Simone Fiorletta, guitar player of the Italian prog band Moonlight Comedy (two albums released "The Life Inside" and "Dorothy"). I had released three solo albums: "The Beginning", "Parallel Worlds" and "My Secret Diary").
You can have more info in www.moonlightcomedy.com or www.simonefiorletta.it

To whom do you think your music appeals to?

Talking about Moonlight Comedy of sure our music appeals to Power-Prog Metal fans.
As guitar hero the speech is a little bit different. My music is instrumental and mainly concentrated on the guitar work, but it's also true that I deal different styles all united by Rock. In my works you can listen to Hard Rock songs, ballads, acoustic tracks. Inside "My Secret Diary" there is also a big presence of rhythmics and solo keyboards, edited by my big friend and musician Andrea De Paoli (Labyrinth).

This is your third album now, how is it different from the past two solo efforts?

We can say that there is a kind of evolution due also by the age and the musical experiences. In fact I released my first solo album when I was 22 years old, in 2004. I have always tried to play my emotions and the more I go on the more I feel to communicate them fully.

To which musical artists do you owe your influence?

Talking about "gutar-hero" I have always loved the compositions of guitar players like Satriani, Schon, Zaza ... guitar players that I still love.

What made you want to play the guitar in the first place, and what age were you at the time?

I studied piano up to when I was 11. In that period I didn't listen much music apart the Classical authors that my teacher recommended to me. However I don't mind telling you that I spent lots of night at home with the guitar hidden, even if I was very small. At 12 I begun to feel my first Rock-Metal albums... I was crushed by those guitars so distorted and aggressive they made me shiver.
Then I discovered that the first day I played the guitar was Saint Cecilia, protectress of the musicians!

Did you idolise any musicians and do you have any favourite artists these days?

Personally I don't like to idolize or think that some musician could be the best. I believe that if the music is really made by the heart and not only by technique, everyone of us has something to express, to communicate. He can be also an underground artist but if his music transmits me emotions he deserves to be listened.

Has there been anyone you have been listening to a lot lately?

Sincerely it's a problem that I don't put myself; according to me it's never too late to discover artists or to change my mind about some past musicians.

You are also in another band Moonlight Comedy, can you describe the music from this band and to who it would appeal to?

Moonlight Comedy released the worldwide debut album in September of 2004. We were considered one of the best emergent Power-Prog Band of that year. This year we have released "Dorothy", which is earning a lot of good reviews. We propose a particular Prog Metal that I invite all you to listen to the samples on www.moonlightcomedy.com or www.myspace.com/moonlightcomedy

Which aspects of each band do you enjoy most?

In the Moonlight Comedy I love the feeling you can live in our songs. We are five boys united by a big music passion and by the Prog, while in my solo works I'm very free to express my feelings because I compose freely, without thinking of following a specific genre.

What do you like do in your spare time?

Really I have no much spare time, because I'm very busy with my solo project or with Moonlight Comedy, with my school of music or with other musical works. In this period, besides, I have begun to work with Milan Polak (Paul Gilbert, Billy Sheehan, Marty Friedman and more) vocals and guitar, Armando Pizzuti (Moonlight Comedy) and Domenico Citriniti on the bass, Andrea De Paoli (Labyrinth) on the keyboards, Tony Liotta (Santana, Sting, Tina Turner and many more), Andrea Scala (Moonlight Comedy) and Marco Aiello on the drums.

You are a very talented musician, how many instruments would you say you can play to a high level?

Thank you very much for "talented musician". As I said first, I studied the piano and there are a lot of instruments I like but I prefer to concentrate myself only on the guitar trying always to give the best and to improve every moment.

With your solo band, why did you decide to make it an instrumental band?

Simply because I felt the need to express my feelings, to tell my life "communicating" without the use of the word. I write about my private life, so the album is called "My Secret Diary".

Your music is rather neoclassical and progressive, what has brought about this style of music?

As I said first, I approached to the music studying the piano and the classical, then I begun to study the electric guitar and Rock, Pop, Fusion, etc. Anyway when I compose I never decide before what kind of song writing, I prefers always to be instinctive.

What further ambitions do you hope to achieve?

First of all I want to continue the instrument study, to be always abreast of the times because music in little time suffers great evolutions.
Talking about my work, my music, I hope to bring my name and that of Moonlight Comedy higher and higher.

In my review I mentioned about how music has changed to be more technical and how the average skill level of musicians is much higher now. What is your take on how music has changed?

I believe that today the easy communication and the possibility to know any argument, thanks to internet, has brought also to a technical growth of the instrument. Often we can see young people that downloading thousand and thousand of available video have the possibility to take care of their technique without frequent music lessons. Anyway it seems that in many cases there is an obsession to take care and to take their technique to the extremes, damaging the music that, according to me, is something else than to show own skill.

How wide your personal musical scope and range of interest?

I like much to discover artists that don't have big productions behind so they are forced to promote by themselves their music on internet. Sincerely I have a preference for the underground, obviously if we talk about good musicians, rather than bands or solo guitar player that for some absurdity, of sure not for their own skill, can release album by stellar productions. Anyway I want to listen more and more music, trying to know everything that surrounds me.

What to you is the most important historical musical event?

I believe that every situation that has brought to a musical evolution it's important.

What do you say to people that wont even try your music because they only used to solid heavy metal and are unwilling to explore?

I don't want to force people to listen my music, I prefer that it was a spontaneous thing, anyway I believe that in my compositions there is a mix between melody and groove, thing that every heavy-metal fan likes. If you prefer listen to my metal side, I may invite you to listen to my band, Moonlight Comedy (www.moonlightcomedy.com - www.myspace.com/moonlightcomedy)
