Douce Morphine, [read Sweet Morphine] is a young combo of Dark/Atmospheric/Gothic Metal? well that's not really easy in fact to put a style on the music of this band, because of its great originality but for sure we have here something really dark and depressive but on the other hand very beautiful? "Du Mal De Vivre" is the first album of the band a really good start in my opinion.

If you are a fan of the French gothic literature, no doubt that you will like Douce Morphine, because of the great lyrics on the album? All in French, the texts of "Du Mal De Vivre" are really impressing, really well written, really touching. Very depressive and gloomy, the lyrics of this first auto-produced album are the first things that will touch you when you'll listen too this album the first time. And not only because of the lyrics, but also because of the two very particular voices of the singers. The one of Matthieu, very dark and only spoken and the one of Flore, an angelic voice, very special, very disturbing but however beautiful. The duo give a lot to the music of the band, and again the particularity of the two voices of the two singers is an excellent point for the band.
The music of Douce Morphine is very synthetic, that's good, but however I think that it could be a bit better if it could sound a bit more organic than electronic. Ok at least the sound of Douce Morphine is really original and personal but well in general and in my opinion for such music it's always better [even if of course we can add electronics sounds] when the music sound more classic. It could be just bit more beautiful and less minimalist?
"Du Mal De Vivre" is an album which isn't really easy of access but on the other hand very interesting and which has the faculty to give you the feeling that you must listen to it more and more?
This is not perfect, I think that the voice of Flore could be better, but it will come with time, [the one of Matthieu in its own style is perfect], the production is not perfect too, a band with such compositions, deserve to have a perfect sound, but here again, it will come for sure after this first album. On the other hand I find the artworks very good and perfect for the spirit of the music of the band?. As I said before, this is a promising start..

Douce Morphine is a very special band, not really easy of access their music is however very good and original. This first album confirm that this band have a real potential for the Dark Metal scene. Just need for them now to prove us that they could do something better with better means of production. Personally I have no doubts that we will hear about them in the future.
