After Ywolf and Infrablack, Finnugor is the 3rd project of the very good Hungarian compositor, Gabriel Wolf. Contrarily to his two others bands, Finnugor is more classic. No Electronic music and Neo Classical Gothic here, just Symphonic Black Metal with, it's true, some parts of gothic music. The result another time is very good? This guy knows how to do good and interesting music.
Composed of Gabriel Wolf himself [vocals and gothic instruments], Nikolai Stalhammar form Finland [guitars, drums, keyboards] and with the guest appearance of Domina Mystico [female voices] and especially Attila Csihar [vocals on "Cosmic Nest Of Decay"] that purists will certainly have recognised this ex band of Mayhem.

Let's talk about the music of this cd, well I must say that "Death Before Dawn" is certainly an album who can be add to your cd collection. Why? Well just because this is the kind of music with is part of originality who change of the actual routine in the black metal production. Yes Gabriel Wolf know how to do something original and not boring who can be listen and listen without this feeling of déja-vu. With the great quality of the two musicians, with a good song writing as much for the music than for the lyrics, is not very difficult to be carried away by this album coming from the Est. of Europe.
The tracks are all different; we can find pure Black Metal, something near than Gothic Metal, or tracks more Heavy. Another good point for "Death Before Dawn", who shows us the good quality of composing of Wolf and Stalhammar.
For the artwork, another time Szendrei Tibor, who used to work with G. Wolf, make a beautiful cover granted completely to the spirit of the cd? Very good?
At last I must speak about the guest vocalists. Dominica Mystica is not very present on the cd except in the 1rst song but it's few interventions are not unpleasant and don't waste the general ambience of "Death Before Dawn" to the opposite? For Attila Csihar who sings in the fifth song, well there is nothing to say the voice of this guy is perfect for Black Metal and the track rock!!!
Now let's just speak about the bad point of this cd. The production. It's not very good the sound of the instruments is crappy sometime and it's a shame. But don't be worry it's not catastrophic, only a pity.

Well in conclusion I could say that if you like Black Metal, Gothic music and very dark atmospheres, don't hesitate you will no regret this purchase. Gabriel Wolf is good and personally I already wait with impatience his next productions [especially the next Iwolf who be released in 2004]. Nothing to add, I only counsel you "Death Before Dawn".
