I don't know, I don't understand the big fuzz about these guys, everywhere I see, I only read good reviews, can they be THAT good? I asked myself, the only way to discover it's to listen this and review it. So, I contacted the band for some promo material, which they kindly sent to me.

At the first listen, I knew it was a solid album, nice riffing, mostly mid-paced tunes, nothing too brutal, a lot of influences from the European Death Metal scene. At the second listen I began to discover some things I missed before, some clean vocals here and there, some tempo changes I didn't noticed before, at the third listen I was humming one or two of the songs?

You see the progression here? Definitively wasn't love at first sight (or listen), but the album kinda grew on me, and now I like it, BUT I don't see why the marvelous reviews everywhere! Am I missing something here? Maybe I didn't notice the thing that makes this album great?

And I mean, is a freakin' good album, but is not THAT great, some songs are excellent, while some others are just ok? not all the album is a killer, and some fillers can be noticed.
Maybe is that I'm so tired of those Melodeath bands trying to emulate Dark Tranquillity and In Flames? I only hope that the scene doesn't become so overpopulated like, let's say Power Metal, because at this rate of new bands, is going to happen.

And by no means I'm saying that The Fifth Sun is a copycat of the after mentioned bands, I'm just saying that this is a fine Melodeath album, but I don't think is the most innovative album of the year, just a regular good album. I really enjoyed the listen maybe I missed something, I don't know, let's hope that in their next release (hopefully under a label) they can catch more my attention.
