This is strange? I received this promo, and the info sheet said that Atem, hailing from Finland, were an extreme Metal act, Death/Black Metal with Folk influences, great! I thought, Children of Bodom meets Ensiferum, not a bad combo eh? But sadly, all my aspirations for a band of that proportions were banished as soon this 12 minute Mcd ended?

The first time, to be honest with you, didn't understood shit of this album, is like total chaos! When you're starting to getting the hold of a riff or something, that freakin' chaos again, and is not the "progressive" chaos, nah, is just that these guys are too disperse!
The second time, the same, and, where are those "folk" elements the sheet mentioned? The only thing I can notice is a tin whistle (I think it is) buried in the background of the second song?

These guys need to work in the arrangements, some songs doesn't make sense at all, maybe Atem are ahead of their time musically speaking, I don't care, I didn't understood this. This is a weird Cd, take for example, at the 1 minute mark of the fourth song there's a guitar line that reminds me of a Quentin Tarantino movie, really unusual.

Let's hope this guys can put their act together and release better stuff next time, because even though the Cd has nice cover art and good production, doesn't manage to convince me, but hey, I'm not the Metal police here, why don't you download the whole Demo at their site and tell me what you think? You can also download the cover art and lyrics (if you know Finnish that is) It won't take you long, and besides, you'll get this once in a lifetime opportunity to prove me wrong!
